It's going to take years to get over the self-esteem thing. School and family damaged it worse than a tool shed in a tornado.

It took me a while too.
Basically I had to train myself to at least consider not taking EVERYTHING personally.
I learned that I was rarely, if ever, the reason why people did things.

Thrill - I had no internet for a while. Proud of you for reaching 131 days sober !
I'm the worst when it comes to being self-conscious & paranoid. I don't even know where it comes from. I thought drinking helped, but it made me much worse.
Congratulations on the new job - will be thinking of you on Thursday. Birds will miss you.

Hey Thrill, congrats on 131!!! Upward and onward!

I am another one that has struggled with self-esteem, feeling inferior, paranoid about what others thought of me and on and on and on.......

Stay the course, it gets better and you are worth it

Congrats on the job 👍 I have been in a bad mood for about a week, trying to give up smoking. It's not working 😐
That's just the way it is in society, people make boring Smalltalk, "what work do you do" "this weather is hot/cold" "did you see the game last night"

Ahh the birds sound cute. Is it a male and female you have? Maybe in the future there will be the rolling of tiny eggs?

131 days, something to be proud of as well as getting a job (which is something to celebrate) And being daddy to 2 😀

Day 132. My social skills are still as bad as a Nintendo game published by LJN. Maybe working will help with that. I hope this job lasts longer than Iowa's #2 spot on the college football rankings. I hope I stop making obscure, esoteric jokes that only 5% of people will get and 0% will think is funny.

I am part of the 5% 🙂 But then again I'm English and only know Mario and Fortnight on computer games 😆
But a dancing banana never gets old 👍
Hope your little 🐦 are doing well.
Something else that never gets old is seeing you clock up your days every morning when I come on here. Your posts help me when I am having a bit of a hard time, because no matter how you are feeling, you are not drinking and just truck on and helps me do the same

Day 133. I start work tomorrow. As I've mentioned before my whole "career" (and I use that term loosely...) I'd been in active addiction. This'll be the first time that I'll be normal and clean at a job. I actually prefer working at 6AM now. When I worked at 6AM in the past I'd be a corpse. I was under the influence of all sorts of stuff at work in the past. One time I even OD'd at work and wound up in the hospital. Very unprofessional. I better post this before the internet goes out for the 100'th time today.

I used to throw up before a new job too. That had more to do with the liter of crappy plastic-bottle vodka I drank every day than nerves, though. It went pretty well today. I'm a lot less wrecked than I normally was after a work shift. It's nice walking into the room and being greeted by two little birds.

Day 135. First full shift of work today. I woke up at 4:30 AM and went in at 6 AM. Unlike in the past I did not take 12 adderall pills in the morning to wake up. An adequate night's sleep and a couple sodas is all I needed. Not being a hung over corpse was a nice change. It'll be a test for my sobriety to see if I can tolerate a crappy job and not resort to numbing.

I think you’ll be ok. You’re different now and things needn’t go how they did in the past.
