24 Hour Recovery Connection Part 274
Happy Sunday sober friends!
It's a beautiful, and hot sunny day here in Maryland - 10:30 am.
I commit to yet another 24 hours of blessed freedom from the chains of alcohol. I will never go back to that hell again- never, ever ever.
My bday is coming up on Wednesday and I've gone through so many emotions- anger that I am not celebrating the way I used to (although last year I was sober as well) and just sadness that so much in my life is changing. I am trying to find new ways to celebrate. At first I wanted to be alone all day but I decided to invite my best friend and her family over for dinner- she knows I am sober and supports me more than anyone else in my life (other than SR) so it will be a good thing. We will probably just order dinner from a restaurant so I don't have to prepare anything. Anyway, it's kind of a big deal to me since birtdays always = getting wasted in the past. I'm sure you can all relate.
My question is, how long did it take you to start enjoying birthdays again once you got sober? What do you do now to make it a special day?

Late check in. Massive storm last night. 70 mph winds. Lots of storm damage.
Worked all day cleaning up tree limbs and repairing soffits and shutters.
Part of Porch ceiling ripped off and it was in need of a makeover anyway so there is $900 worth of lumber in the garage now to get started.
Just when I start getting caught up with projects something else drops in on me.
Busy Busy Busy!
Who has TIME to drink!!!!! 24 MORE!

Hi,
Just back from watching my sweetie's band play here in town. It's a Summer Series of Music in the Park. Of course, I thought they were fantastic!
I'll sign up for the next 24, why mess with what works?!

Well I drank 2 beers on Saturday night. Stressed and tired but no excuse. So didn't quite make a month sober. What should I think ? Don't know. But I'm back on here when previously I would have stayed away and carried on drinking. I found it hard to call yesterday another day 1 but I didn't drink and I won't drink today. I don't want to drink again. Didn't enjoy the 2 beers at all ! Have a great day everyone. Love to you all.
I'd go back and look at your recovery plan Steve - there should be something in place to deal with a snap decision to drink - whether it's posting here, calling someone or something else..
congrats to Ambuler and FoleyUK on your milestones
and good thoughts to Delilah, Jo, Kris, Leigh and anyone else struggling a little today - tomorrow will be better

Went to a barbecue yesterday and met one of our kind. Sipping a diet coke, he's been sober for 8 years. He introduced me to another one of us. We had such a laugh at one point someone said to us, "Wow! You guys are really going for it!" All I had was 2 diet cokes and water and people thought I was drinking because I was having such a laugh!
Sober is so cool. I LOVE being sober. There isn't one thing I miss about drinking. 24 more hours please xxxx
