One Year & Over Part 24
Rick, congrats on both 17 months and fighting off temptation.
IP, I still have the occasional drinking dream. I also have plenty where I actually abstain, so I think it's probably just the subconscious trying to sort things out.
Itch, that picture of Beatle Paul most closely resembles my teenage hair. I've always looked older than my actual age. I routinely was able to buy alcohol from the age of 15-on without much problem. And now, at age 49, I frequently get the senior discounts without even asking

I've had a few really bad nightmares, too, that I wake from and it takes a few minutes to realize it WAS just a dream. Thank God for THAT!
Glad you woke to a better reality.
That can certainly shake one up, though.
Big Hug.

IP,
All of us have had those dreams, disturbing when we think we drank and wake up wondering if itbwas real and for a moment feel we have failed a great test. But somehow, for me, it wasn't about wanting the alcohol as much about fear of thinking it might happen.
That we all have them doesn't make them any less disturbing. Or more.
Kris,
I have family in Boca and have done a lot of diving there and South off Key Largo at the John Pinnecamp underwater reef and park. They sure are big there.
FBL,
I was drinking at fifteen too over the border in Port Chester and White Plains NY where the drinking age was 18. I don't even remember where I got the fake ID. I just remember that I didn't look anything like the pic. I think you're right about the subconscious working things out in dreams.
Raining again. Boooo . . . .

A beautiful new morning rain or shine,
Itchy,I was never brave enough to go diving but lots of people used to dive at Isle Royale. I used to love to hike and fish around a little.
Have a good day no matter the weather Overs.

I rarely got "carded" when I was a teen...if I did, I just left and went to another establishment, so no need ever for the ol' fake ID (though lots of my friends had them).
It's raining here again this morning. I saw lots of geese on my nature walk yesterday, so I know that spring is here.
Have a great Monday, overs!

Yeah Gil,
It looks tame like I said. I was threatened with expulsion from 5th grade because I wore Beetle boots. The first and real ones had a strap and buckle and were "ankle" boots like this https://www.etsy.com/listing/1501622...-shoes-vintage but just a year later they switched to the side zipper one most think are Beetle boots. Wearing Beetle boots threatened civilization and life as we knew it. Good times. They didn't care about my mop top though. Shorter than Paul's.
I was always a rebel. In first grade I got in trouble for wearing my Zorro gloves and mask to school. Very cool in hindsight.
Kris,
Nothing brave about it. I spent my toddler years going to Jones beach ( jones beach ny - Bing ) with my family and honestly don't remember when I learned to swim. Probably under age three. I seem to always have had a mask and fins, and was a strong underwater swimmer. Snorkeling was second nature and SCUBA was the next step. You need a month of school to get certified and they teach you what you need. We also had underwater cases for our Hi8 Sony Handicam. We transferred the ones from Diving the Red Sea, off Hurghada, Egypt for a week, and visiting the temple at Luxor, then crossing the Nile by boat and visiting the tombs and shrines in the Valley of Kings. Yes we visited King Tut in his tomb. We have video from 100 feet plus depth and all the wild animals (from poisonous lionfish and giant Moray Eels, to sharks and blue rays, unicorn fish and sea turtles, and some really big Barracuda and Groupers.) the only one that attacked us was a trigger fish that bit off bits of the edge of my fin, we were too close the nest it was defending. No harm, no foul. We've been within ten feet of dolphins in the wild who swam with us several times. They are way bigger than they look at aquariums.
I had a baby face and was carded well into my thirties FBL. I went back to college at 30 and when we went to a student dance the "kid" taking tickets at the door carded me, then asked me if my mother was going in too. I couldn't resist and just said yes. My wife couldn't speak she was so surprised/embarrassed. Then she got mad at me! It was clothes. Older students stick out for a few months until they assume the taste of their now younger peers. Unintentionally blending in. You can go to any university and tell the non traditional students ( read older) that are in their first semester or two because they are dressed in old guy/girl stuff. Then unconsciously they'd change over a year or so.
Love Mike Nesmith, the only actual musician in the Monkees and who wrote "Listen To The Band" "You Just Might Be The One" and "Mary Mary" which he actually wrote for the Paul Butterfield Blues Band and which they recorded six months before the Monkees released it on their album "More Of The Monkees."" ol Wool Hat" is a great avatar. Mike's turns 73 next December! Ouch!!

Hiya Overs, hope you're all well.
Congratulations on 17 months, Rick.
Horrible day at work. Coughing and sneezing all day and losing my voice. It was really deep like a blokes voice. Since I've had asthma I seem to catch anything going. I'm so angry with myself. Grrr.lol.
Watched a brilliant show on TV last night. Andre Rieu in concert in his home town. It was enthralling.

Audaded by Mike Nesmith to begin my day. How lovely. And thank you (I forget who) for introducing me to that word, I managed to use it in my new book!
Belated congrats Rick, good to see you here.
All ok chez Toots, day off today, not looking for jobs to do, though plenty that might catch my eye if I don't spend the day squinting.
