24 Hour Club Sign up Sheet Part 56, All Are Welcome!

Hi Folks! If you have around 6 months sober and would like to share your story in the
club, please let me know in a personal message that way I can prepare a Colorful post
with your story and post it when it comes your turn.
I am going down the list in no particular order and have several people lined up already
but we do look forward to hearing yours. I ask that you do not post it directly in the club,
this is still mainly a sign up sheet!

What is my Life Purpose?
Have you ever asked yourself what is my life purpose?
Well what would you like your life to be?
What would you like to be remembered for after you are gone?
What has really given you joy in the past?
What has given you a sense of accomplishment?
What gets you to jump out of bed in the morning.
What have you done in the past that gives you a sense of self respect?
When I look at these questions, I realize that saying "My Job"
would not be the answer to any one of these questions.
How many people are defined by their job?
Gosh if you are doing something that you really love which I know many of
you are, I truly envy you.
But I think most people go to work to get a paycheck and do not find their
work very fufilling, I could be wrong and I hope I am.
The answer to most of those questions above for me would be "Service"
When I look back on my life I realize the very happiest times were those times
when I was doing service such as singing on the church worship team,
teaching the cute little 5 yr olds at my church Bible Stories, helping homeless
people in need on the street, and throwing birthday parties for my son.
Helping out my parents, doing crafts with children in the after school program.
Making coffee for an AA meeting. Giving people rides to meetings. Taking calls
in the middle of the night from people who needed help in recovery.
Encouraging others. Speaking at detox. Writing to people in jail. And now
doing the 24 hour club.
But never did I think that these things would fufill me more than having a nice
car, a big house , having beautiful clothes, jewelry or even going on vacations.
It seems the more I give of myself in service the more I am filled with joy.And
the more I filled my life with stuff like drugs, alcohol, sex, and material goods
the emptier I felt. Yep, the more I had the emptier I felt.
My life is so simple today. I had a lot at one time. A beautiful 2 story home
on a waterway in Florida, an in ground pool, a super hot truck, a nice boat
and money to do what I wanted. But those were not the things that brought
me real joy. It was an illusion.
I have lost all of that. The big house, hot truck, the boat, everything through
my addiction.
And I don't miss it.
My life is so simple today. I live in a teeny 800 sq ft apt. It's very manageable.
No lawn to cut, No bushes to hedge. I am ready to get rid of all that stuff
that I thought I had to have at one time to be happy that was in that house
I lost, it is in storage and there are people who need it more than me.
Giving it all away will make me very happy
I left my job early March as it was totally unfufilling and at times I felt
it was unethical.
I know that I'll be ok, I know that something will come my way. My needs have
always been taken care of when I trust God.
I now know what fills that hole inside, it is doing service for others, It is
serving God. I have not been doing enough of it lately, I have not been
as happy. I know what I need to do now.

I just read your post Deek,thank you....will have to do some thinking. Being of service this last year has also made me feel so good, if only the people knew what they DO for me! Yes, will have to meditate on this....
Sunday morning meeting, sound like a broken record...but another great meeting. My hubby stayed home to do yard work. So, it was Mom & Son time. A blessed gift of sobriety....having all 3 of us in Recovery. Thank you HP.
