Liked the post on boundaries Deeker. It's something I'm working on...setting boundaries and saying no. Instead of drinking to tolerate the negativity of a few people close to me, I am reminding myself that I can't change them (nor are their behaviors my fault or responsibility) but I can change my reaction to them. People learn to treat me the way I allow them to.

Boundaries
We have all felt trapped in the gloom of other people from time to time.
You know what I am talking about, that person that is continually displaying the
“woe is me” attitude.
They rarely have anything good to report and often speak poorly of others.
Or how about the pushy person.
We need to get out of that trap. Take time to hang around with the people who build
up others and have a happy heart. Misery does not need company.
I call it spiritual pollution. I do not allow spiritual pollution in my life.
It's important to set boundaries in early recovery. If there are people in your life
who do not support your recovery or If they tell you that you don't have a problem
when you know you clearly do and try to talk you into going out drinking with them
or have no regard whatsoever for your feelings.
They have crossed your boundaries.
How do you know when a personal boundary is being crossed.
Well, for me I may feel uncomfortable around a person, I may feel violated. Maybe
they are actually in my personal space.
Maybe I dread seeing them. Maybe they make demands upon me with no regard for
my feelings. Or they are in my business telling me what to do.
I have been guilty of crossing other people's boundaries too.
People who cross other people's boundaries have little respect for others and most
of the time they have no idea they are doing it.
But you have RIGHTS.
And It is ok to say say NO!
No, I do not want to take part in this gossip.
No , I do not have to be around bad language.
No, I am not your go to , to dump all your problems on.
No, you will not use my things without my permission.
No, you will not drop by my house anytime you want without calling first.
No, I will not be around your negativity.
No, even though I live close to you, I will not being available to give you a ride to
work everyday.
If we do not have healthy boundaries, people will not respect us and will walk
all over us. Having healthy boundaries is a sign of self esteem.
When I was drinking and using I used to go along with the crowd. I was a chameleon
just trying to fit in because I did not know who I was.
Today I know who I am and I have choices over who and what I want to be around. We all do!
And Saying No is really ok!
