Howdy MINErs. Hope everyone is doing well. I'm cruising along, enjoying a day off after a brutal fifty hour weekend at work. Decided to go to a local cafe whereI can sit on the web, smoke cigs, and drink my ice tea(my new addiction). As luck would have it, there is a small new moms convention in the courtyard, so me and a couple of other guys are patiently waiting for moms and babies to leave so we can light up. You can see each guy look over at the moms, at their puters, at their cigs, back at the moms, lolololol. Anyways, going to see an epic concert this weekend in SF, it is the opening show for Dream Theater, my favorite band, and the US tour of their new album. Can't wait. Gonna meet up with a couple of guys from their forum(which I have been a member of for years, got over 8000 post there lol) for the first time, including the admin. Maybe we can have some fun temp-banning people before the show. So good to see everyone going strong, you guys inspire me. Rock on MINErs.

Pleased to say all is well here other than the internet being on & off for a couple of days now.
Busy, busy, busy.
When not working for real, I've been devoting way too much time to planning & building a foundation for the eventual installation of a 4 foot water wheel in the creek behind my small shop. The plan being that by Spring I'm generating enough power to run my shop thereby keeping it off the grid & giving I hope a unique selling point for rustic furniture I would like to start production. Maybe something on the tag about being built from reclaimed lumber with a zero carbon output, yadda, yadda, yadda.

Hope all have a good night!

I've had Internet troubles and all other kinds of trouble today--just one damn thing after another. At least I'm staying sober, troubles will come and troubles will go but sobriety must stay no matter what.

Hi All!

Just dropping a line to say hello. I joined the 09/2011 class also, and plan to bounce back n forth.

Concor: You're building a water wheel! That's crazy-cool.

Camedown: have fun at the show! I know the impatience inspired by wanting a smoke in a public place that young children have suddenly invaded very, very well. It is hilarious : )

I'm back in some college classes and working on a novel. Oh, and I'm supposed to be running an obstacle 5K course where other people dressed as zombies chase me in October. I love Halloween.

Toodles : )

Hoping everyone is doing well!

Yes, a water wheel is in the works & even with the back breaking labor involved in preparing the site, I'm loving every minute of it.

Planning on attending an annual event tomorrow that never seems to get old, Mountain Heritage day. Tons of local arts & crafts, exhibits, music, food, etc. It is alleged that the Sun will make an appearance which would be a welcome change as we've had almost an entire week of slate grey days & rain.

Get out & enjoy your weekend!

I had my first real social thing today in a long, long time. Met an online female friend at the Reno art museum, lunch outdoors at a greek restaurant, conversation, before she had to leave on her 2 1/2 hour drive to her home. It was really, really nice. no need for lies, coverup, pretense. High on the experience, not an intoxicant. The fact thatshe is also a non-drinker helped make it very comfortable. Sobriety brings blessings to those in need of being blessed.

If CatFry is checking in I suppose I should too. I've been lurking on you guys for a while to see how you're doing.

I joined this group May 8 after an alcohol poisoning incident and was trying to kick triple addictions to alcohol, xanax, and oxycodone. Managed to kick the first two but not the third. But now I've managed to string together 3 sober weeks. It's nice to be back!

I'm primarily posting on the oxy forums now though. I feel like alcohol was easy for me to give up and I really have no interest in ever drinking again so it makes me feel guilty posting on the alcohol recovery newcomers forums.

It's awesome to see how well everyone is doing. Stay strong!

Concor, that waterwheel sounds awesome! What 'mountains' do you live in? I'm in a place called the blue mountains, west of Sydney. I love it here.

Grateful for everything today, even if and when the sh$@ hits the fan, as it did today, I feel protected by something bigger than my own ego and world of concerns.

Greetings all, hope everyone is having a good day!

newstart, I'm in the Southern Appalachian chain, only minutes away from the Great Smokey Mountain's National Park, the Blue Ridge Parkway & the Cherokee Indian Reservation.

Spent a little time with the ex g/f over the weekend & pleased to say it went surprisingly well. Wouldn't go so far as to say that I'm actively pursuing the relationship, however as time passes it feels as though the pieces of my life are starting to fall into place, seemingly with little if any assistance from me.
Although I know this to be untrue based on the amount of effort I've put in since May, but it sure feels that way sometimes.

133 days...a little past 4 months. Living in today. Had my hair cut by a stylist (not by me), also had a manicure & pedicure. Been to Denny's for an interview, but they're open all night and need someone 5 pm-2 am...buses end at midnight...going to that preschool tomorrow, not feeling iit. I will get on the substitute teacher list for 3 private schools & the public school I used to teach for. I will look into taking the PRAXIS Teacher test, might reapply with same public school system...

Going to meetings, following my program...still being lazy at home, not sure why. This place coulda been totally super organized by now...

Hi Miners!

I apologize that I have not posted for a while.

It is selfish, and that is one of my flaws.

This is a support group, and I feel if someone doesn't check in for a while, then it weakens the support.

My excuse: If you will remember, I was hospitalized for infection in my leg Labor Day weekend. While there for three days, they pumped the IV full of anti-biotics and something called Dilotta. I had an opiate issue years ago, and I think this Dilotta worked me over pretty good. It was necessary because I had serious migraines. So I get out of the hospital and had a mini withdrawal from this dilotta. Then I have to fill my prescription for oral anti-biotics. While I'm there I activate a prescription for Wellbutrin to stop smoking which was recently prescribed. It is an anti-depressant used to help people quit smoking, but they don't know how.(Seriously, look it up) Before I even started taken this I've had really terrible tension since the hospital. To explain the tension: make a fist with your toes and keep it like that for hours, also clenched jaw, and other muscles tightened.Anxiety too.
Finally go to the doctor this morning, and explain everything. She has me on muscle relaxers. Only one at night. Supposed to get sleepy, then when I wake up, the residuals of it will keep the muscles relaxed throughout the day. Have not taken it yet. A little nervous. Everybody here says doctor, doctor, Dr., GP, ER, Medical supervision.
I have over 4 months alcohol sober. Now I've had three days of hardcore opiates, anti-depressants for smoking, and I'm still smoking, and now muscle relaxers.
My journey of sobriety was to get the neuro-transmitters in my head healthy, and the dopamine levels better, and all of the other brain fluids that I can't spell back to normal.
Then I read about PAWS and how this can take decades.
Anyway, that's my story.
If anyone would like to suggest something, I'm all ears.

Dee. I would really like your input.

Again, very sorry I took a long break from posting. I've just been in a dark place with nothing positive to offer. Although, I have been reading.

Thanks!

I'm sorry you're having a hard time physically lovingit.

I think most of us understand when life gets in the way of posting - I wouldn't worry about that

As for the other stuff - I'm not a Dr, and my drugs were pot and alcohol but I understand your concerns. I have a lot of pain issues but I don't tend to take strong painkillers either unless I really need to.

I think it's basically down to what makes you comfortable - if not taking these meds negatively impacts your life, then obviously you need to think about this.

I've been taking codeine for a while now - it brings up my quality of life, and it targets the pain - it's not something I'd take for 'fun' because it doesn't 'do' that for me.

If it did awaken the monster - I'd need to look at what other pain relief avenues I had open to me.

If you've been open with your Dr about your past, and you trust their judgement, then I'd guess the way is clear to at least try these new meds, with the proviso that you'd check in immediately with them if it felt too good....

If you have reservations tho - and it sounds to me like you do - maybe you need a second (professional) opinion on this - maybe with a pain management specialist who knows something about addiction?
