Hi, I'm Wes and am dual diagnosis.
I'm Wes and I have bipolar type two and substance abuse disorder. Joined this site for additional support along with AA, NA and therapy. Looking forward to starting a new chapter in my life.
Welcome, Wes, you have arrived at a great place. My dual diagnosis is with major depressive disorder and general anxiety disorder, and alcoholism. There are other bipolar people on this site in recovery, too. You seem to be off to building a strong support system. We have to live the best we can with mental illness and learn to live our lives sober. I look forward to hearing more from you.

Welcome Wes. I have the same diagnosis. Bipolar II and substance use disorder, in my case the substances were sedatives (alcohol, benzos, sleep meds) and cocaine. Sedatives when I was depressed to numb out and coke when I was hypomanic to try and ride that wave some more.
There are some unique challenges to this diagnosis for me. One is the self medication, the second is that this is definitely a physical illness and must be medicated....so finding that cocktail is crucial. This is pretty much impossible to do if you're using/drinking, but for me fell into place when I got sober.
Keep sharing.
