Finally went to the GP

I have been diagnosed with depression and anxiety. I have been on medication for only a week and am feeling a marked difference already. I had some major stressors this weekend but I feel I coped much better than usual. I have had 2 whole good nights sleep. Even booked a holiday with anticipation, which would normally leave me with dread.

It also seems to have curbed my alcohol cravings to almost zero.

That's a great step. That first week or two can really give us hope that change is happening- stay on them!

I'm hoping that your comment about curbing cravings means you aren't drinking, but noticing less cravings. I may be redundant here but drinking while on any mental meds is never a good idea (voice of experience here!).

Forgive me if you've shared elsewhere, but what else are you doing to support your sobriety?

I am also glad to see you here, that your medications already are bringing some respite from the depression and anxiety. I will just echo what August said, don't drink over the medications, also from experience. For myself, the changes mentally helped me to see more clearly how I could plan what to do in my recovery, to not drink under any circumstance.

No I haven't been drinking. I told my GP and he said I hadn't to drink at all whilst on the medication. He has also referred me for CBT and I am looking into IC.

I find that CBT is a big complement to my medications for depression and anxiety, as well as in coping with any AV that pops up in my head.
