No contact is so difficult

No contact for the umpteenth time. This is the worse one yet as she could be homeless. She is supposedly going to meetings and not using. Counselor to her biological teenage daughter has suggested no contact due to recent relapse which sent teen into a downward spiral, PTSD and depression. We have to protect this precious girl as she has been through so much in her 16 years. Addict mother is 45 years old. My heart hurts for the addict but the past 23 years of rehab, jail, having it all going well then relapse has not changed her life. I am beyond tired of hearing that relapse is a part of recovery. She ruins her life and everyone who loves her but it's not her fault.

Throw down all that love on the teenager. She needs every drop.

Relapse is NOT part of recovery. That's the whole point of recovery. You don't relapse.

I agree 100% put all you have into that little girl. All we can do is pray for the addicts and hope they find their way and for us to remain as strong as we possible can.

I agree 100%. Relapse is often part of the process of getting to that point when you are "in recovery". Until then, you are dealing with an active addict ( even if there are clean spells).

Be there for the teen. She needs you, and your attention can be useful.

Yeah, no contact is difficult. But the decision to go no contact is easy. After all, what choice do you have?

During this difficult time, letting the girl know she's loved and will be protected is so, so important. That's the part of this equation you have control over, and I'm confident that you'll do just that.

Keep us posted.

Prayers to you all. Addiction truly does suck.

relapse is part of ADDICTION.

that precious young girl needs every ounce of love, attention and understanding you have. her "mother" has taken herself out of the picture and brings nothing but sadness and bad news. protect the 16 yr old. help her to feel safe and loved and never less than. make sure she knows how perfect she is EXACTLY as she is.
