The Ignore Feature
The Ignore Feature
There is an extremely valuable tool available here on SR. The Ignore Feature. I have seldom used it in the years that I've been here because I feel I can usually learn something from everyone.....even if that something is tolerance. But there are some very good reasons to employ this feature and some newcomers (and even those who have been around a while) aren't aware of it or don't use it for some reason.
Why use it:
1. If you find that a particular poster has nothing of value to offer for your recovery.
2. If you are triggered by them.
3. If you consistently have the desire to answer them in a snarky manner.
4. If you have to put any effort into ignoring them if they show up in a thread.
5. If you don't want to receive PM's from them.
6. If someone consistently says what you don't want to hear and you need to filter them out....permanently or temporarily.
7. If you aren't of a like mind and just find that you'd rather not be bothered by them.
The Ignore Feature is not permanent. You can always take someone off your Ignore List just as easy as you can put them on there. You just reverse the process below. As each of us progress in our own recovery, we may find value in something someone on our Ignore List says......later.....or we need to filter what we hear slowly as we're ready to hear some stuff we weren't ready to hear early on, the Ignore Feature is a valuable tool. It allows us to control our own environment here on SR to some degree.
What does the Ignore Feature do:
1. The posts of the individual you put on your ignore list will not show up. However, you will see that they have posted......you just won't be able to see what they wrote.
2. That individual will not be able to send you any PM's.
3. You will no longer be triggered by the posters comments or feel the need to roll your eyes every time they post.
4. You will be unable to Thank that poster....but I'm not sure whether they can thank you......as your posts will still show to them unless they add you to their Ignore List.
How to use the Ignore Feature:
1. Click on the poster's screen name and you will see a list appear under their screen name.
2. The last item on that list is "Put so-and-so on Your Ignore List"
3. Click that...it will ask you to confirm....say yes....and poof. They can no longer disrupt your serenity.
Things that may prevent you from using the Ignore List:
1. You may be codependent
2. Concern that you may miss something important.
What if you are on someone else's Ignore List
1. There's a good chance you won't know that you're on their Ignore List.
2. If you somehow find out that you are, don't take it personally. It has less to do about you than you may think. And besides.....what someone else thinks about you....is none of your business!
This forum is about YOUR recovery from the affects of someone else's addition in YOUR life. The last thing any of us need is to be unhinged by someone purposefully (or unknowingly) sabotaging our recovery process.
Finally.....I would like to encourage anyone whom I trigger....please...put me on your Ignore List. I'm ok with that.....lol....

I see the ignore feature as a great way of enforcing my boundaries, who and what I allow in my life.
The only trouble I have with it is when I get this message:
"Sorry Ann is a moderator/admin and you are not allowed to ignore him or her."
How does one get around that? muhahahaha

Kindeyes, I can not imagine why anyone would want to put you on ignore. Honestly!! You have taught me so much and always in a gentle, non judgmental, non pushy way. What a terrible loss for those who do not want learn or are just not teachable.
God bless and thank you for being there for those of us who do!! (((Hugs)))

My ears were burning! Just because you can't put me on ignore (because I am a mod) doesn't mean you have to read everything or even anything I write. You will miss all the good stuff and free cheesecake...but nobody is making anyone read anything they don't want to read.
