Anybody experience this pattern?
.....a tap on the shoulder, testing the water, knowing that you will
be SO relieved to know they are alive. Extortion. Nothing less.
A close friend got VERY tired of my "being used" stories. After
a particularly long stretch of going quiet,(6 wks) I had become very worried
that something serious had happened to her. No response to messages,
and I was in knots (2+ years ago).
My cynical, negative, and totally non-supportive buddy had the gall
to suggest....... "offer her another $100"..... she'll answer in 15 seconds."
HE WAS WRONG!
( It took 27 seconds. )

He started with inhalants at age 12, then did any and every drug he could get his hands on through high school, settled on heroin as his DOC during and after college (although he did cocaine and other opiates, too), with marijuana throughout. He's 28 now.

Not all homeless people are lazy, sell their food stamps, engage in criminal activities, panhandle etc.
I work in a homeless shelter and a lot of my guys work day labor. Some also have a regular job but cannot afford housing.
Here is a good recent article which dispels some myths about homelessness

There are a lot of good people who happen to be homeless, but the bad ones ruin it for everybody else, it seems.
