Roughly how long does exhaustion last in the newly sober? He's still functioning, working, going to meetings etc, but really tired. Does this last a long time? Just wondering...

It depends. The very early stages of sobriety bring with it a good deal of insomnia. Sleep is very difficult the first couple of weeks, which, of course, adds to the exhaustion. I'd say after the first 4-6 weeks, the exhaustion should be pretty much gone. At least, that's how it was for me.

he's about 8 weeks, and seeing some improvement. I think I'm just concerned there may be some depression involved.

That's entirely possible. Many people experience depression during early recovery. A visit to the doctor might help figure it out.
