9 months today
My RAD has 9 months of sobriety today.
My RA stepmom has two years, last Friday.
I didn't even know how much time RAD had, until she came home with a chip and showed me. I assumed it was longer than a year but she relapsed somewhere, and must have got right back on the wagon because I never really knew.
Stepmom called me and is now about 3 months cigarette free, too, after being hospitalized for COPD (had a trach tube).
I'm excited for them but more excited for me.
I have over a year of being hands off the addicts.

YAY ((((Chino))) - how awesome that your daughter slipped and got right back on track, and you didn't even know about it!!!
I'm really happy for her, but am even happier and proud of YOU!!
Hugs and prayers,
Amy

It's been a challenge but the end result is so worth it. I treat her with the same respect and regard I do my son. He's 25, has back problems (degenerative disk disease since he was 16), and is non compliant most days. I don't question him about it and I don't make suggestions either. He doesn't bother telling me about it any more because my response is the same: you know how and where to find help when you're ready.
We've raised two intelligent children and they know our goal for them was self sufficiency. One has attained it and the other is actively working towards that, assembling the pieces one day at a time
There's a nice balance in my world these days and it's only off kilter when I forget to slow down, remember all the lessons I've learned.
This is all good news! I just want to say thank you for sticking around SR. It is through the hope and experience of people like you that helps those of us who are still struggling with our own codependence with addicted loved ones.
