Smile Joy has returned

Last night husband and I went to see the fireworks, and our RAD joined us with a friend. It was a pleasant outing and I got some incredible photos! Something else I got to see was the return of joy with our daughter.

She's on subs and working recovery one day at a time. I was really worried about her after that car wreck because she was deep in depression for over a year. But she's put one foot in front of the other with some substantial prodding by her team of doctors.

Anyway, last night she had tears streaming towards the end of the fireworks, but with the most beautiful smile on her face. That happens to me once in a while, too, when I watch them, and especially this year after our devastating flood. RAD said people here needed the celebration, to give them joy and hope. It's a great way to release some sadness and replace it with joy. I agreed with her.

It was when we were leaving in our separate cars that it hit me -- her brain is producing natural endorphins again. It took something huge like 3 tons of fireworks for me to see it, but I wouldn't have it any other way

Liberty is a perfect word! I'm so glad I learned to stop controlling and learned instead to respect her right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. It's her life to own and she's choosing to feel and live. She wasn't experiencing this kind of joy when I was trying to control her.

Well pass the tissues because this brought happy tears to my eyes too.

A blessing of recovery, no matter which side of the substance you are on, is that we "appreciate" joy and recognize it when we see it.

Feeling pretty grateful myself today as well. Thanks for this spirit lifter, Chino.

Hugs

What a great story ~ celebrating freedom. Freedom as a country and freedom from drugs. It's good to hear some positive stories of people in recovery here for a change.
