What a Woman Should Have

A friend of mine sent this to me the other day. I hope the author is correct. Personally I believe most of the information is dead on.

This is attributed to Maya Angelou.

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ..
enough money within her control to move out
and rent a place of her own,
even if she never wants to or needs to...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ...
something perfect to wear if the employer,
or date of her dreams wants to see her in an hour...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ..
a youth she's content to leave behind....

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ...
a past juicy enough that she's looking forward to
retelling it in her old age....

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE .....
a set of screwdrivers, a cordless drill, and a black lace bra...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE
one friend who always makes her laugh... and one who lets her cry...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ....
a good piece of furniture not previously owned by anyone else in her family...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ...
eight matching plates, wine glasses with stems, (aqdded by Elana: Even if they are paper and plastic!!!)
and a recipe for a meal,
that will make her guests feel honored...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ...
a feeling of control over her destiny...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...
how to fall in love without losing herself..

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...
how to quit a job,
break up with a lover,
and confront a friend without;
ruining the friendship...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...
when to try harder... and WHEN TO WALK AWAY...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...
that she can't change the length of her calves,
the width of her hips, or the nature of her parents..

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...
that her childhood may not have been perfect..but it's over...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...
what she would and wouldn't do for love or more...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...
how to live alone even if she doesn't like it...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW..
whom she can trust,
whom she can't,
and why she shouldn't take it personally...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...
where to go...
be it to her best friend's kitchen table...
or a charming inn in the woods...
when her soul needs soothing...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...
what she can and can't accomplish in a day...
a month...and a year...

things are fine here! Just very busy! Worked a sheep dog trial yesterday..

Between dogs, cats, house and work I have no time or money! Life is good! Woo Hoo. Keeping busy keeps me out of codie behavior. I just have no time to worry, obsess or any of that. Many days I am treading water just to keep ahead of all I have to do!!!!

(((((Elana))))))

Love the post. It sounds just like Maya Angelou.
She is one of my favorite writers. Thanks for sharing it.
Sounds like your doing some amazingly hard work,
woman. Don't forget to squeeze in something nice and just for you.
Maybe a movie or window shopping excursion.
Your workin' too hard, darn it.
Take a day.

Love ya,
Linda

Just so y'all know.. today my sister and I are meeting after church and we are going to a movie and then for some food. A little reward to US for having been successful at Weight Watchers and life in general!

I think life would jsut be perfect now if I had 27 hours in a day and 8 days a week with every weekend 3 days...

We saw "3:10 to Yuma" and we both love westerns and while there was some of the dime novel stuff going on (perfect offhand shooting by a few guys but a lot of missing by others which is more real) and a horse trick that was absolutely dime novel.. it was a good movie.

After that we went to Mexican Radio and had Roasted Veggie Soft Tacos.. and hot sauce to taste... and we had a really nice afternoon.

When we reach our goal weights (mine should be in a few weeks) I figure we need to go to NYC and see something at the IMAX and have lunch at the Stage Deli!!!!

I am so proud of how she is doing (and pretty pleased with me too!).

It is important to give yourself a reward once in awhile. It truly is. Doesn't matter if it is for cleaning the house top to bottom, for dumping some codie behavior that you don't like or for losing 10 pounds.. or for just being happy. Give yourself a reward.

Thanks, Elana, I am grateful that I can tick off all the items on that list and that my life is good today.

My mother, who was widowed young, taught me that no matter what life hands you, good or bad, that we must be able to take care of ourselves...inside and out. I think she would be proud of the daughter she raised.

Hugs
