Empowered Recovery

I just started reading the E-book tonight, and already I feel like this is going to be a big help. I am really starting to find some comfort in the messages on this board, and this book has already got me hooked. I am so thankful.

(((4LeafClover)))--- I'm so happy that you feel thankful and that you realize that you are not alone. As you probably know, there is a thread that I participated in that ended in posters pitting ER against Al-Anon. That was not my intent at all and I'm sorry that it got that whacked out.

My take on all that is that NOOOOO-- it is not a competition!! Whatever works for each individual is what works. If you find comfort in ER (the way that I did) then I think that is wonderful. As with any other thing in life, take what you need and leave the rest. I'm so happy that you are finding some peace. It is a journey and at least you're on the road. I wish you all the best.

I completely agree with you. It takes different tactics for different people.

I'm glad you find Empowered Recovery's free e-book helpful. I think it's a good idea to investigate all the options that are available to help codies in need. After all, if we only investigate and focus on one program without exploring others, then how would we know what's the right program or if it contains the right tools for us?

And even if we don't agree with any one program 100%, we're always free to take what we want and leave the rest! I think when we keep an open mind as we explore the various recovery tools available, we're more likely to find the little gems most helpful to us. If we explore something with a negative attitude or an assumption that it contains nothing of use, or poo-poo it altogether without any knowledge of the program, then we'll overlook some really useful tools.

Keeping an open mind to the ideas and experiences of others, in my opinion, is what recovery is all about.

That's what life is all about IMO. I'm really an idealist though...
