What is your reaction to this?

I went to a first appointment with a counselor today. He was nice and seemed knowledgeable (he's also an LCDC). Half of the time he talked about how we need to start to help me. But the other half was how we need to help my AH. He said we need to do an intervention, and that I needed to stay in touch with his mom because "we are going to have to save his life." What are your initial reactions to this?

If it was a counselor for you, I'd say about half your money was wasted. A good counselor in my opinion, works with what the problem is, and what the possible solutions are. Barring no obvious solutions, coping techniques. It sounds like you didn't get much of that.

I've been to a few Counselors in my time, never once did I have any of them tell me I had to save someone I was in a relationship with.

Find a new Counselor that is focused on you and only you!!

It all just left me really confused. In reading here these 8 months, I started thinking there was nothing I could do to help the situation. Then I leave today wondering if maybe I can. Beyond the fact that we weren't all about helping me, I am at a loss again about my role in this.

I have heard of intervention programs, I have not heard of many that were sucessful. Did you give the councelor a reason to think that is what you were there for?

If your going for you, then I have to agree with the others. You cant save an A.... all you can do is save you and that should have been their focus.

As I said before I am shocked and real curious what website she got her degree from geesh.
Hun I know you are going to do what you want to do what you want to anyways...but we aren't trying to tell you anything to hurt you.
Also I had my ex in and out of rehab God knows how many times and I'm telling you they pretty much let me know...It's ALL up to him and only him
