Melodie Beattie's book came in the mail 2 days ago, and I'm already 2/3 through it ! I'm really enjoying it and learning SO MUCH....I find myself nodding my head to so much of what she says ! I've also been learning quite a bit here, and have been practicing detaching. I wasn't quite as successful at it last night (husband's lodge night). I didn't sleep as well as I had last Thursday night, and woke up when he got home at 12:15. I knew he had been to the bar after lodge, and felt that old familiar tightening in my stomach and anger. I had to remind myself that him going to the bar is HIS choice - something I'm not responsible for...he's a big boy, etc.

It does get easier with time, right ?

Yes! Not overnight and sometimes it feels like you're banging your head against a brick wall, but it does get easier. I still make "mistakes" and my thinking can go a little wonky - the difference is that I recognise it now and can do something to correct it.

And that book is brilliant! I get something new out of it every time I pick it up. "Launguage of Letting go" is good too - you can find some of the readings on the nar-anon board.

Yup, easier. Some days in little tiny baby steps. Some days in giant leaps. Just keep on the path. All that is asked of you is to try. Everything else will come.
