Remember when..........there were no panty hose and you had to wear those garter belts every day or to be really stylish you wore a girdle that hid the top of your nylons.
Remember when there were no curling irons and no blow dryers and you had to put your head under one of those dryers. Remember when we slept all night in those big curlers and wore them out with a scarf. Remember using the orange juice cans for curlers? Remember the first electric rollers?
Remember when we wrapped our hair around our head all night to make it straight with a million bobby pins or just ironed it in the morning.
Remember when the first color TV came out and Walt Disney was in color on Sundays and the second half of The Wizard of OZ was in color and the first half was black and white.
Remember the first big calculator and the first computer?
Remember the first disposable diapers without tape?
Remember having to wear a dress to school every day and spending the summers sewing your own clothes and babysitting all summer to earn money to buy the material?
Remember when gas was 26 cents a gallon and a pack of cigarettes was the same.
Remember when you could buy 2 baskets of groceries for $25.00.
Remember when rent was $70.00 a month and you could buy a nice home for about $26,000. Remember when Volkswaggon Bugs were $1,800.

MG,
Thank you for the trip down memory lane...however I used Hamms Beer cans to set my hair...remember me mentioning that my father is an A?
I held my head in front of the fan to dry it...then I took the hood off the hair dryer and used the hose blowing hot air...now there is an invention for you!
Remember having no air conditioning??
The movies were a quarter.
The Beatles on Ed Sullivan?
I must be having the longest birthday on record! I was just thinking about my debate wih you all about my DESERVING a nice dinner on my birthday so I laid down the gauntlet with Ward and all along he was planning a suprise party! Oh my God! I was giving him nightmares! He mailed invitations...I repeat...Ward went into a store...purchased...filled out...bought stamps for...and mailed invitations! He gave a party in my house...and it was spotless because HE cleaned it after he got me out of here. So he was in the midst of a logistical tap dance and here I come acting like a spoiled child insisting that he bow before me on my birthday! Oh my God!
So take the cost and work of this party...and add the $300 or so that this dinner cruise ran... because I had to have a new outfit...right? And shoes... So we are on Michigan Avenue and I drag him into a Sunglasses Hut and "Oh Ward...these are the sunglasses that I really, really, really, really, really, have to have"...and he buys them.
What a diva I can be!
Oh well...I didn't have any idea...and his track record has been less than stellar...and really I WAS just trying to take care of myself...the only problem was SO WAS HE! Once again I was getting my own way!
Love you guys!

Wow - I do remember when - and it seems like yesterday
And Remember when McDonalds used to post how many hamburgers they had sold...I know the number was less than a million and they cost 50cents in Port Huron Michigan (right across the border from where I grew up in Sarnia, Ontario).
And movies had performers who came out before the "newsreel" and did magic acts and lasso tricks, and you could stay for the second feature for free!!!
And Maybelline mascara was hard and you had to use a wet brush to apply it.
And if your slip showed, it was a big deal (little did we know that the slip would become the outfit some day).
And the first lipstick I wore was called "Peppermint Twist" after the dance and it smelled like peppermint.
And we wore "virgin" pins (or was that a Canadian thing?), those silver round circles. I wore mine ever so proudly (LOL).
And mohair sweaters that itched but looked so pretty.
And our first mini-skirt, never quite short enough for us and always too short for our mother.
Oh wow - I am glad I am 50 something, what great memories.
Happy Birthday again, JT.
