I buy most of my used books at Alibris.com...but supporting SR through Amazon is a good idea too...I also enjoy listening to the audio tapes...Wayne Dwyer and Caroline Myss are great on tape...and I can pull them out for refreshers. Does anyone know if Melody Beattie is on tape?

If you are lucky enough to have a Half Priced Book Store in your area, check them regularly. I have found most of these books, gently used and normally pay only about $3 each!

Happy reading!

I do that, too and Goodwill and other thrift stores are where I have found lots of the best (recovery and other) books I have.

So many books have helped, but the ones that really come to mind are: "Under the Influence", "Getting TheM Sober" series, the AA "Big Book" and the Bible.

stoptheaddiction.com???

I just went to this site from some guy claiming he can CURE any addiction. It's a $47 dollar book (online book maybe?). I was wondering if anyone has ever checked this out or not?

He slams AA, by saying they have a 95% fail rate. (???) He claims the 12 steps are pointless..... and many other crazy facts.

He also claims that he isn't trying to get rich off of this book...only wants to help people! I find this hilarious for $47 a pop!

So I want to know who has bought this. If anyone has even heard of it? It just sounds like such garbage, but if it's true, I want to know. The page just goes on and on and on and on.... so it was hard to stay-tuned long enough to read all of it.

One other interesting note: he says alcoholism is NOT a disease.

Hey there HolyQow,

I haven't read the book you mention, but i've seen plenty others like that. The way I pick a book is to find somebody at my meetings who's living the kind of life _I_ want to have. Then I ask them what book _they_ read that helped them reach that life. That's called "sticking with the winners"

By the way, all the facts and figures you could ever want on whether or not addiction / alcoholism is a disease can be found at

Thank you for this list of books.
I found one recently that is really great.
"12 Smart Things to Do When the Booze and Drugs are Gone"
subtitled
Choosing Emotional Sobriety through Self Awareness and Right Action.

I am trying to parent myself, and this book was very helpful on my path of emotional sobriety through right action.
