I had similar issues with family not really getting the realities. At family parties exah would stay in the kitchen quietly getting blotto on vodka he hid in bottles of fizzy soft drinks. So if I openly drank a glass of wine I was seen as the one with the problem. In the end I refused to engage in all discussion and debate on our marriage/his drinking/my responses to it etc The less they knew the easier it became to do what was necessary. Guess what? After the dust had settled and the divorce was through they all agreed I'd done the right thing but noone would ever support it while it was happening. They all felt torn.
