Codie Anthem? "Cry Baby"
Codie Anthem? "Cry Baby"
I cannot listen to Janis Joplin do this song w/o getting tears in my eyes--not EVER. I don't know that it gets any more raw and real than this. I've been there, and I think an awful lot of you have too:
and we've got an updated version of it from Joss Stone, plus Melissa Etheridge doing "Piece of My Heart":
We are not the first, last or only ones to feel this way...

I'm with you all the way, dandy!
If I really want to get down on the floor and roll around in the pain, no one does it for me quite like Janis (and Joss sure does her justice in that video, I've gotta say!). "Ball and Chain", "Get It While You Can", "Try", "I Need a Man to Love"...

Oh, yeahhhhhhh.... definitely speaking my language here ladies.
I've been a fan of Janis since I was 15; I devoured biographies about her. Just a few weeks ago we ended up out on an odd night & saw a band from out a town with a chick singer that totally rocked some Bobby McGhee. I'm not a fan of female singers generally speaking - but those that I like, I adore.
Personally though, my Janis anthem has always been Move Over:

The Codependent - Sia
Feels like we are married and I haven't run away, run away, run away
So many years I've carried you in my arms
Yet I stay, yet I stay, yet I stay
And still I come a-running when I hear the telephone, telephone, telephone
And I ask for absolutely nothing in return, in return, in return
I'm gonna watch you drink it all
I'm gonna watch you fall
You'll find me by your side
If you find me at all
So here it is on offer
Everything I have to give, have to give, have to give
My love for you allows me not to judge the way you live, way you live, way you live
So just remember that whenever you may feel alone, feel alone, feel alone
Yeah, I am here there's nothing to fear
I will be your home, be your home, be your home
I'm gonna watch you drink it all
I'm gonna watch you fall
You'll find me by your side
If you find me at all
I'm gonna watch you drink it all

Janis was one of my mother's favorites, and I started listening to her vinyl records while I was still in the single digits. After my mother died in 2012, I couldn't listen to Janis for YEARS. She made her way back onto my playlist a couple of years ago. I missed her!
