I stumbled across this video of a dog gathering up his courage to swim and thought I'd post it here to encourage us all on our way.
The video won't embed, guess I have to just post the link:

honeypig.....this video is just perfect!
Last week, my daughter adopted a young dog (pitbull mix) from the shelter.
The dog is leery of water....and, my daughter lives near a lake.....
I immediately called her and gave her the info. about this video....
She says to tell you..."Thanks".....

I know, I could really relate to that feeling of having my hind end sitting on the edge of the pool while my front end paddled furiously and being just torn between the two!
Sooner or later we make our move, and just like the dog, our heads go underwater for a second before we bob up, spluttering, look around to see where we are and where we want to be, and then start paddling in that direction...

Wanted to bump this up for all the folks making a new start and all those hanging on the edge of the pool--I think you'll relate to this video of this dog's first swim! (and along w/not having to log in each time I come here, I also seem to be able to embed videos once again, YAY!!)
how i was taught to swim:
one older boy (families together at a resort) grabbed my ankles, the other grabbed my wrists, they swung me once, twice, three times and then as they let go sailing into the DEEP END of the pool they yelled SWIM! this was before the age of arm floaties or the belief that children needed to be protected or even watched very much..........
obviously i didn't drown. i was too damn mad to show them how scared i was. or cry.
