Alcoholics / Addicts will jettison people out of there lives who question their drinking or drugging.
You have dodged a bullet. Be there for him if he ever reaches out to you for help.
Mean time, get on with living a happy life.
You can't change him, he simply will not change for anyone or anything.
One day, he may hear a very large explosion & that will be the sound of his own head popping out of his own ass.
Then & only then, he might be ready to change.
