O/T Who has watched "The Breakfast Club"?
O/T Who has watched "The Breakfast Club"?
I just love this movie, and am watching it now. My thinking of it has changed over the years. Each time I see it, my thinking changes.
I see a lot of kids trying to adjust to a dysfunctional life.
I see an athlete, a popular girl, a derelict, a brain, a gothic, or grunge. I see them as all trying to just survive. I can watch that movie at least 100 more times. I think that it just reminds us that no matter what, we are all alike, and we all have the same hurts and disappointments.

One of my favorite movies. I think it shows that we all have more in common than we think. We know about the baggage we carry with us, but when we take the time to realize that everyone carries baggage, it helps us understand...we're all just trying to survive.
We never know what someone else may be going through.

I remember when I went into IOP for my what they say was attempted suicide. Maybe I was, I just wanted to go to sleep. So I went to that IOP. I was put down as situational depression. I couldn't understand why they would put me in with bi-polar, schizophrenics, ppd. It was then that I found out that we were all alike. We all had the same problems and different ways of handling things, or not handling things.
So, Iamthird, and again I hate that because you are first with me. What did you think of it?
I think the first time I watched it, I just thought it was a good movie, then I started to see more in it the 4th, 5th, 10th time I watched it.

DD & I just watched this 2 weeks ago. When RAH has been doing his meetings, I've been introducing her to these classics. (He enjoys some of the movies, but she & I talk throughout the ENTIRE movie because she asks 1.5 million questions & wants to dig deep into every character/relationship.
Other movies we've watched so far: Hairspray (she's a musical theater nut), Steel Magnolias (both original & remake), Grease, Ferris Bueller, Titanic, Forrest Gump, My Girl, Coneheads, Mean Girls, Practical Magic..... so many!

NPR did an episode of "This American Life" that might appeal to all you Breakfast Club fans.
Directly from the description:
"Ira Glass interviews actress Molly Ringwald about what happened when she watched one of her own movies, The Breakfast Club with her daughter. Ringwald talks about how for the first time, she saw the movie from the parents' point of view, not the kids'."
I'm not a huge fan of the movie, but I was still fascinated by the segment when I heard it on the radio...it was very...human.
You can google and listen to the episode for free...it's This American Life, Episode 526. (You can go to their website and click directly on Act Three, and skip directly to it if you want)

Oh yeah - last weekend it was "A League of Their Own" and now DD hasn't stopped with the "There's no crying in baseball!!!" all the time, too funny.
She already knew the basic premise of The Breakfast Club from seeing it spoofed on the Nickelodeon show, "Victorious".
Goonies is another recent favorite, along with Uncle Buck.
