I have one more dog, a beautiful Labrador named Luna, but she's way too uncomfortable in front of the camera and I didn't want to cause her anxiety. Dexter is 5 months old, only 4 lbs., and is a Pomeranian/Dashchund mix I rescued from a county pound in Hillsville, Virginia.
His owners had acquired him at 5 weeks old. They had him for two days and complained that he cried all night. Well, what did they expect? And who would give away or sell a puppy at 5 weeks old?
He was 7 weeks when I acquired him and only 1.5 pounds. He is by far the smallest dog I've ever seen in all my years of rescue.
I got him home the first night, played with him for a while, set him up all comfy in his crate, and he cried for 5-10 minutes, and then slept through the night. Since then, I've never heard a peep out of him. The trick is, of course, to make sure the puppy is good and tired before you put them to bed. A tired puppy is a good puppy.
The owners were either idiots or just didn't have a clue. Regardless, their loss is my gain. What a dear little dog. His tail wags non-stop and he will sit in my lap and cuddle for hours. I absolutely love him.
I'm a lucky new mommy. Thanks for letting me share.
