~ 7 days of no contact with AXH. (It's positively astounding what a difference it makes not having to interact in any way with him.)
~ Sunshine
~ My awesome kids who, despite a ****** childhood, are shaping up to become some amazing human beings. Loving, caring, but with a core that can't be bent.
~ The fact that a little over a year after leaving AXH, I have come to peace with the role of alcohol in my new life, and decided I don't really care for it at all.
~ My new man, who is a wonder of patience and love, and who understands that for us to function together as a couple, we can never cease being individuals.
~ My job, my home, and all the people who have come out of the woodwork to make my life easier and more beautiful. You guys included.

  • my job, that allows me professional freedom
  • my xabf, who taught me that I'm lovable
  • my friends, who support me
  • my health, so I can enjoy life!

Serenity in my home.

With a little bit of healthy (cute!) mischief mixed in.

(I think my plants would have fared better had I left them outside for the hurricane. Oh well.)

A roof over my head

Storm at night and no need to go out

Rehab therapists, machines that make pain subside, the scientists, manufacturers, sales people, electricians that made the whole thing possible... doctors, medicines... alternative medicine practitioners...

My Pilates teacher

To have kindness in my heart as opposed to many people I had to interact with today

To have my mom well and alive and have laughed with her a lot tonight.

Plans for the future spending more time in my head now, instead of melancholy for the past.

My friend B. and future roommate, thanks to her I will be able to save money that was previously for rent.

The new boxing teacher because she got me out of my funk today.

I'm thankful for...

My beautiful children who inspire me to be the best mom I can!
My talents as an engineer
My Al-anon recovery program and all the wonderful friends/family I have made!
Yesterday... when I was able to take my kids to the state fair and watch them laugh and smile on the rides!

I'm thankful for this message that was sent to me today...

Remember the Sun...
The Sun Is Always Shining. If darkness has fallen, we know that the sun is still shining at this very moment somewhere not too far away.

There are times when gloom or darkness causes us to momentarily lose sight of the light. Although it is at these times when the thought of the sun can help us. Its warm, glowing rays brighten even our thoughts, and it’s good to remember that despite appearances the sun is shining right now. We may not be able to see it at this very moment, but if clouds block our view, they are only filtering the sun’s light temporarily. If darkness has fallen, we know that the sun is still shining at this very moment somewhere not too far away, and it’s only a matter of time before it will shine on us again.

When we remember that the sun is still shining, we know that things are still in motion in the universe. Even if life feels like it is at a standstill, sometimes all we need to do is have faith and wait for the time when everything is in its perfect place. Or we can we can choose to follow the cues of the sun and continue doing our work and shining our light, even when we can’t yet see results. In doing so we exercise our patience, making sure we are prepared when opportunity knocks and all other elements are in their right and perfect places.

The sun also reminds us that our own shining truth is never extinguished. Our light shines within us at all times, no matter what else occurs around us. Though the sun gives us daily proof of its existence, sometimes our belief in our own light requires more time. If we think back, however, we can find moments when it showed itself and trust that we will see it again. Like the sun, our light is the energy that connects us to the movements of the universe and the cycles of life and is present at all times, whether we feel its glow or not.

I love this thread!

I am grateful most of all for my beautiful, amazing daughters. My oldest started 1st grade yesterday at a new school, new teacher, leaving her old friends at her old costly private school and I was/am in awe of her courage and positive attitude about her new place. She had a great first day and is such a darling little girl.

I am grateful for traditions that are heart warming that I've continued with my own daughters (baking chocolate chip cookies on the 1st day of school for ex)

I am grateful for my body that I've abused with stress, eating disordered behavior etc... that gave me 2 daughters and which is surprisingly healthy today and which allows me to run and exercise (which in turn helps me keep my sanity)

I am grateful for my friends who have been here for me unconditionally during what has been the hardest year of my life

Oddly, I am grateful for losing my job last Spring bc despite looking for a position all summer I didn't find something that was a right fit (hours, salary etc...) and it has resulted in my being able to drop my kids off and pick them up and spend time with them at the start of this school year that I otherwise wouldn't have been able to do. Money, material things, etc... will all come in due time. Right now TIME with my precious kids who are growing up before my eyes is the greatest and most valuable gift there is to me.

I am grateful for having the strength (though it still hurts, I am still struggling, sad etc.. but I am putting one foot in front of the other and not turning back) to remove myself and my daughters from an abusive homelife. I deserve better and THEY deserve so much more than what I've given them until now. Without al anon, educating myself about abuse and addiction, therapy and friends I would not have gotten here and my daughters would not have the mother that they deserve.

I am grateful for so much more but I'll stop here for now.

Thanks for the opportunity to be reminded that amidst the stress and sadness of our daily lives with addiction, there is much much more to be grateful for than there is to be sad about.

Today I am thankful for a strong, supportive family who will give me a hand to reach for when am lost and emotionally drained and a kick in the behind when I really need it.

For Ben and Jerry's Chocolate Cheesecake ice cream.

For an overcast day that keeps the temp below 115!! Whew!
