I left a scoreboard on the fridge

It says. Family--0. Bush light 495.

The police officer tried not to laugh.

It really does feel like that, doesn't it?
It's great to be able to find the humor mixed in among the hurt.
It's a reminder that the real us is still inside somewhere, and once we escape the madness we can find ourselves again.
