Intervention on a and e
Does anyone else watch the show Intervention on a and e on MOnday nights? It is a great show about people dealing with all kinds of addictions and the family involved. I have become hooked to this show and it has helped me to get a better perspective on what the addict goes through and feels and I can relate very well to the family members. Just throwing it out there. I am sure that others watch it but I had no idea about it untill recently.

I've seen it and find it sad. I also caught "Nightline" a few weeks ago when they did an intervention on an alcoholic. I sounded like the wife and the A sounded like my ex. It was feaky. It's like they all have the same playbook with the same script. Very eye-opening.
Yes I do watch it every Monday. I was going to ask the same thing yesterday, if anyone watched it. It's interesting to read the follow ups after the show is over about where they are now in their recovery.

Yes I watch it and look forward to monday nights. Sometimes I wonder why I like the show so much. Because in some episodes it depicts the most vile, ugly truth about addiction. I still remember visvidly one epsiode quite a while back where this girl was living alone in this dump - I think she was a dancer to support her drug habit - and was always naked and her sister would come drop off food for her in a dish on the floor like an animal. I cannot get that vision out of mind - her crawling around her trashed out place naked and spewing obsecenities at her sister who came to help her. It was outrageous. But for some reason the reality of it helps give me understanding, and I always feel hope that the person will find their way out And I just love Candy Finnegan and that other bald guy - they are fantastic at what they do, and I appreciate their efforts so much.

My ex wife used to watch this, at the time she was-probably still is-addicted to prescription pain meds.
My exabp girlfriend would watch this, been over to her place on quite a few occasions when it was on.
Myself, i don't find any interest there, can't think of any benefit, and if I need to look at the suffering caused by addiction I don't have to look far.
I did get something helpful from the show, however. Based on my life experience, I always assumed that crack addicts looked like crack whores, I was surprised to see a somewhat healthy looking woman-she was definitely well fed-on the show.
When I lived in the city back in the late 80's I would leave for work at 4am, the crack whores would be walking the streets looking for tricks, they were pathetic looking, 90 lb things. I always thought that this is what a crack addict looked like.
I have watched the program for quite a while. When I first started watching it, I would cry and my dear husband would change the channel. The naked truth of it hit my raw nerve endings.
I now watch it to aid in my recovery. Recognizing the patterns of behavior by family members and understanding and identifying similar behaviors in myself that I need to continue to work on. Recognizing the behavioral similarities between the addicts and my own son is startling. It does seem like they all share a "play book".

I also watch it and it truly is an eye opener....its just amazing how the family members on the show do exactly what the kids and I did when my XAH lived here at home....and he was and probably still is or worse as what we see on the show regarding the behavior patterns of the addicted....

clearly, all interventions are not as successful as these, but i think the addiction specialists that take part in the show are incredibly well-trained in not only recognizing how the addict can best be helped, but also by treating them as humans. i've come across many people, friends and family, who had a very stereotypical view of what a drug addict or alcoholic looks like, until they began watching this show. i think it's done truly incredible things for the naive and ignorant people of the world.

I'm fascinated by this show, not sure why, but I especially love to see the end, and whether or not it worked for them. The raw drug use it a little much for me, but I'm especially interested in the episodes about alcohol, like the mother who resorted to drinking mouthwash. so sad.
Yeah, I watch it! I don't like the close ups of the drug use - but seeing the families, I actually recognize a lot of my behaviors in them. I think that's helpful to me! Tough to watch the addicts - so many similarities to my stbxah - but I love how the interventionists handle all those emotionally-charged situations. I think it's helpful but can see how it wouldn't be for everyone.
