Drinking: A Love Story

In case any of you have not heard of this book....I couldn't put it down.

Drinking: A Love Story by Caroline Knapp

From the inside cover:

Caroline Knapp's startlingly honest memoir lays bare the secrecy, family myths and destructive relationships that go hand in hand with drinking. It is the story of her twenty-year love affair with alchohol, her public life as a sophisticated professional and her private life as a depressed and heartbroken alcoholic.

In my opinion, this is a must read for anyone who loves or knows an alcoholic. Sadly, this book was published in '96 and the author passed away in '02 from lung cancer.

That is a fantastic book. Interestingly, my xagf also read it (during one of her brief "I'm never drinking again" phases) and said that it was like her own life-story.

I loved this book too, because I could relate to almost all of her thinking and behavior. Definitely like reading my life story. I'm sorry to hear she passed away.

I love that book and always recommend it too.

It's the first book I read that made me believe, that maybe, just maybe, I could make it too.

Fabulous book. About halfway through it and I read it aloud to my AH and we talk while we're reading. About the parts he can relate to and it helps. Reading through it you can truly see why it is a love affair.

FWIW, I am just finishing a good book that reminds me very much of Drinking:A Love Story. It is: "Parched" by Heather King. I got it at Walmart and imagine you can find it at book stores, too (it's a paperback).
