I had a perfectly normal childhood, a very happy one really. I never went looking for an alcoholic or a "troubled person" and didn't really know much about the disease when I got involved with my ABF. I truly don't believe I was codependant before I met him either, my ex was a cocaine addict and as soon as I found out about that I got rid....I'm not sure why it's different with my current bf. I think it's probably to do with my low self esteem as to why I haven't left him but I didn't have low self esteem when I met him...he just bowled me over with his wit and charm and I fell head over heeels in love with him and didn't see any red flags that where glaringly obvious to anyone with any knowledge of them.
