Can seeing a movie help your pain and if so which one?

"Life is beautiful" is about a father interred at a Nazi concentration camp having snuck his young son in with him. He creates a fictional story to convince his son the "camp" and everything is really a "game, play world" The strength of love was able to find a mechanism to cope with "hell on earth/genocide"

Seeing that movie helped give me some perspective and relative gratitude if you will. As tough as it may seem there is always worse, much worse.

I know there is always hope for my aw, even though we are physically separated. I could not sacrifice my own sanity or health anymore trying to "fix her"

I have found that certain movies can be a trigger...like a post tramatic distress type of feeling and amends soon follow.

I guess for me only feel good movies such as ...It's a Wonderful Life would be what I would look for first. Just like Forest says... life is like a box of Chocolates... you just never know what you will get.

Feel-good movies help take my mind of sad stuff.

I avoid heavy or disturbing movies when I'm going through such tough emotional times.

a few favorite movies that come to mind at the moment:

Fools Rush In
In Her Shoes
Spanglish
French Twist (in French with English subtitles)
Y Tu Mama Tambien (Spanish w/subtitles)...a bit sad, but uplifting too - LOVE this movie.

Gone with the wind...

"frankly my dear , i just don't give a damn"....it took him to get to that piont.
No matter how much he loved her, he wouldn't carry on like that
anymore. He too, had his own demonds to work out.
Plus a lost of a child that they both love very much and it hurted both
of them.

But it also showed how she became like that. It wasn't her intentions.
She wasn't all bad, she tried to do the right things. The lost of her father
hurted her, she brought back the land and became every successful, but
it got out of hand...She process her pain the best she knew how, she suffers
much but also at the same time a very spoil person. She escape into the
bottle to cope with her pain..The money, the success couldn't take her pain away.
She made plans..He made plans and life just happens...gone with the wind..
They both felt empty inside. Then she realize she might be loosing love..

that alki/codi routine that happens.

I stood at that damn door many nights, before i can blurr out something
semilar to that.lol

Between your post and your avitar I am reminded of a joke.

What did the blind man say as he did it into the wind?

Ahhh it all comes back to me now.

Yes I have seen many, many movies over the years as a wonderful way to relax and take my mind off all the stress and problems.

There have been many movies I have enjoyed ... too many to mention. The most recent one that comes to mind is the "Pursuit of Happyness" about overcoming overwhelming odds and succeeding. I also enjoyed "Lord of the Rings" and the powerful message about resisting temptation and fighting to do the right thing against the most difficult challenges

Best...
it reminds me of another joke. I'll have to modify it just a little.
How do an alki take a shower ?

Speaken of blinde..that reminds me of another movie, The Villiage.
It was an eye opener of sorts. It about a blinde girl and running
away from pain or life, but life still happens.

which reminds me of "The Island"...more action packed but the same concept.
It's about a guy that started asking stupid questions.

steve, "reign over me" had the same effect on me that "life is beautiful" did... it made me have a new perspective on my entire situation. things could be a lot worse.

another movie that comes to mind along the same lines is "philadelphia"

(NEG - i LOVE in her shoes!)
