The point to using acronyms is to make communication simpler. As others have pointed out, with over 20,000 members in SoberRecovery it's hard to remember all the names. Using acronyms makes it easy for _anybody_ to understand what's going on.
If I say Susan sent me a very nice Christmas email message, and that Wendy is still uncomfortable dealing with our issues, only people who know me very well are going to know who Susan is and who Wendy is.
But if I say my ex-AW sent me a very nice Xmas message then the relationship and the message are easier to relate to.
'course, you can get carried away with the whole acronym thing.
@ AA f2f met CT OA chick.
means at my Alcoholics Anonymous meeting in real life I met a cute lady from Overeaters Anonymous.
Whenever I get confused I just call up my 8yr old grandaughter. She knows _all_ the acronyms.
