Is it OK to talk about happy times?

I hope so.

Things are going pretty good here. My husband has been sober since 3/19/03. He has been going to AA (I have been going to AlAnon) and he has been going for counseling. Last night he brought home a bood about how members of AA deal with not drinking. He sat and read it for about 2 hours last night.

He has been in a good mood. Calmer and (dare I say) happier. Our 14th wedding anniversary was this week. We weren't able to celebrate because of meetings/counseling but the kids are going to grandparents for a sleepover and we're going out. Dinner without drinks (I posted one about this a few weeks ago) -----hope it's not too hard on him. He just joked on the phone that the bill will be cheaper if I lay of the alcohol.

I don't want to worry about whether or not he is going to drink. So I'm not.

Thanks for listening.

It's always ok to talk about happy times. Many times in my life I have not let myself recognize or enjoy happy moments, b/c I've always been looking for the next shoe to drop.

Just for today, your husband is sober. And that's a wonderful, happy blessing. You should enjoy it and feel good about it. I'm glad you're both doing well.

Enjoy your celebration!

Hugs,
JG

No Doubt,
I think it is gret to talk about the good things in life! We get so wrapped up in all the negative (codependant) thinking, that we rarely let ourselves be thankful.
enjoy this day!

I Love reading about the good times NoDoubt!!!!!

Enjoy your precious moments together and HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!

I used to drink when I got together with friends or go out. Now I am content to have iced tea or soda and just talk. I have just as much fun without the drink. You will have a nice dinner without drinks and enjoy eachother. Life is good!!

All the best,
matters

I think, indeed, we should celebrate together! For us to be real, I would hope we could bring our happiness here as readily as our hurts.!

Honey, you just bring all the good news you can carry here. We LOVE hearing good things and I am happy for you both.

I too have learned that I can have a wonderful time with no alcohol. And the next day I feel so much better.

Don't want to step on your thread, but I have some good news too - my son called and asked me to take him to Detox and hopes they can help him get back in a program. Yeahh!! I just got back from dropping him off.

So thank you for letting me share your "happy" thread tonight. Good news IS good news. And miracles DO happen.
