Lots of people who have alcoholic relatives (mothers and fathers, etc) feel like "it can't happen to me". I won't let it get in the way of my life, etc. All alcoholics feel that. If only I could just have one or two drinks and stop, but they can't. It starts out and gradually builds.

Give it some time. But I agree with another poster, your gut is telling you something, you know the signs. I would be concerned too esp after hearing the family history.
