OT - Need help with wallpaper!

For those of you that may recall, I have been putting off doing some remodeling on this house.
Well, today I finally decided to attack my bedroom. I pulled the wallpaper off (with some water and fabric softener, which works great, by the way) however - underneath I got a surprise! (cry)
Apparently, from what I can tell, a previous owner of the house had applied wallpaper to the drywall and had not primered the drywall first. It then looks as though someone started to remove the wallpaper, realized the problem, and therefore, just wallpapered over it!

I truly did not want to wallpaper the bedroom. At this point, I'm debating....

1) Trying to remove the wallpaper as best as I can and possibly having to repair a few dings that I make in the drywall

2) Leaving the old wallpaper that is adhered to the drywall and doing a faux-type rolling paint job as to where it will help conceal the wallpaper underneath.

3) Or if any of you have any wonderful ideas as to how to remove this wallpaper easier.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

if the wallpaper is stuck that strongly to the wall, there is a real stinky primer you can use to cover it and then paint as usual. any paint store person should be able to help you, but i can try and find out the name if you can't

good luck

If it were me, and it will be messy, I would go to Home Depot, ask them about it, and get some sandpaper to sand the rough areas where there is still wall paper smooth.

Then I would put a good PRIMER coat of paint n it before painting.

I honestly dont know and would really check with Home Depot or Lowe's. They do have people there with 'knowledge' on stuff like this.

Good luck!!!!!!

Love and (((((to all))))),

I would strip with DIF and then sand, etc and prime with some Ziesmer (that is not quit right) of Bulls'-eye; but ask around, too.

If it absolutely isn't coming off.a good prep and primer would have to work, I guess.

Good luck!

Thanks. I may have to go to Lowe's and ask.
As it's going now, the upper layer is coming off with no problem.
However, the layer below is stuck. It looks to be somewhat peeling - not as in peeling off but more like if you had flaky skin. Possibly some kind of glue or adhesive they have used to apply the newer paper I'm guessing.
For now, I'm just getting off what I can and hoping that someone will have a plan to make it presentable again.

The irony is just mind blowing though, I thought.

I know what you are going through... I wallpapered several rooms in my previous home. I had to steam it off...I swore I would never wallpaper
again. My condo has beautiful painted walls and faux painting
in both bathrooms that a decorator did.....Paint is where it's at....lol

Just paint over it and it will look like crude.
The best thing would be sand it smooth all over, every spot and skimcoat the bare wall with a thin coat of plaster (hire a dry wall person) then paint over the finished product.
2nd choice...
They make paintable wallpaper. Get the wall as smooth as you can. Fill in any holes caused by removal of the old stuff. Put the paintable wallpaper on and paint the wall.

Best, you crack me up. The past 2 signature lines I've had, you've commented on. Neat how you know his father - funny how big the world is and yet it seems so small sometimes.

As for the wallpaper update - LOL.
It's not going too awfully bad. From how it looks now, a light coat of mud and sanding should take care of the problem. Though this truly makes me very afraid to even touch another room!

I mentioned the irony in an earlier post. Ah's and my old bedroom - I've stalled this long - and of course it comes out like it is. Just found it ironic.
But I'm surging on......lol

There was a wall in my old house that had the wallpaper applied directly to the sheetrock. We ended up putting nice cedar panelling on that wall rather than deal with the wallpaper!
