Hi, new here today and didn't really know where to jump in.
Looking back I think I have been an alcoholic all of my life but didn't know it when I was young. I'm 53 now and was really in the grip of booze for 33 years or so. I've been sober now for nearly 3 1/2 years and thank God I finally kicked it (I think) after several failed attempts and nearly losing everything. I'd like to hang around, look around and maybe hear other's stories, I'm sure we've all been to hell and back and some still are. Maybe I can even offer advice, who knows. Thank you.

Hi Stjarnadm1, glad you joined us as there is strength in numbers. Congrats on the 3 1/2 years. It sure is better on this side!
I'm so happy to meet you. Welcome!
I drank for over 30 yrs. too. It was part of everything I did. I never imagined my life without it, even as it was slowly killing me.
We are so fortunate to have found our way out of hell. I love being part of this encouraging & friendly community. We are never alone.
Congrats on your 3 1/2 yrs. of sobriety & freedom, Stjarnadm1.

Anyway, I dealt with it by doing the same things but with soft drinks instead of booze. It worked for me but was very hard to adapt to and still is. 3.5 years in and it's still working. 😁
Hello and congratulations, Stjarnadm1! Your comment about the mental aspects of a hangover really resonated. The physical part is awful, but the mental/psychological aspects were brutal and seem to feed the cycle. Glad you are here.
