13 Days

Well. Here I am 13 days sober. Trying to envision never drinking again, kinda hard to imagine, but feeling hopeful.

congratulations and welcome Saoirse

I found it hard to envision too, but I took it day by day...committing to each day sober......

after a while with a long string of days forever didn't seem so unattainable

Welcome to the family. Thirteen days sober is a great start. Don't worry about forever, just stay sober today, and repeat tomorrow.

It was like that for me once. At two weeks, I knew I was done with drinking, but I still couldn't imagine one year. At one year, it was hard to imagine 5 years, even though I knew I was done.

Eventually, you just don't think about drinking, and 25 years isn't a bigger deal than one month. In fact, the most important benchmarks for me were the earliest ones. One month was a mind blower. As you move on, you recognize several years as a lot of time, but it no longer carries that hard to believe amazement. It's maybe not as giddy, but it's still every bit as rewarding, and I'm still grateful that I don't drink. Deeply grateful.

Saoirse, we're in this journey together. I'm 1 day ahead of you - day 15 for me. Let's look forward to celebrating our first sober month anniversary.

Well done! Try and focus just on the day! And then soon enough you'll hit a milestone like a month and be amazed at that and want to just carry on

Day 24 here Saoirse. Let's all of us Nov and Dec 2019 folks hit the new year and the new decade together with a few dozen days under our belt and start 2020 on our permanent sober paths.
