Relapsed, Lost my way

A few years ago, this forum helped me become sober. I relapsed and hoping turn things around, this time for good. Thankful for your support.

Welcome back. Wow - It's been seven years since you last posted. While many of the names have changed the same supportive community is still here.

Welcome back, glad you made it. Do you have an idea of what to do this time? A plan for different choices?

Thanks. I had it all together for a while. A couple of years ago, I had a couple of drinks thinking there is nothing wrong since I quit successfully for 5 years. Slowly but surely alcohol took over my life again.

i honestly have no idea what to do differently. I thought I would do the same thing I did last time which is to post here on a daily basis motivating each other. I am tired of waking up at 2 am thirsty and hungover and vowing to never do it again, until 5 pm.

I guess it doesn’t matter if we stay sober for 5 days or 5 years. A mere drink or two is enough to slide back into addiction

Make a plan for your stopping to drink. Read some stop drinking books. Follow an established method.

The first few days will be difficult but after awhile you will barely think about drinking.

Do you remember the scenario when you drank after the 5 years? What exactly happened and what did you say to yourself to give you permission to pick up that first drink?

Reflect on that and find out what went wrong so that you dont fall for the same trap again.

Alcohol itself never changes. It is and has always been an expensive and toxic poison that ruins people's lives.

Alcoholism is relentless. I'm glad that you found your way back and you're ready to do this!

Support, understanding and care sent your
way. Once, I learned and was taught about
my addiction to alcohol and handed a program
of recovery to incorporate in my life on a
continuous bases some 28 yrs ago, I took
it and never picked up a drink of poison
since.

Staying connected to my recovery lifelines
daily, reminds me that addiction is still affecting
folks everyday and that we can learn to remain
sober with so much support available to us.

Listen, learn, absorb and apply as much
knowledge about addiction and recovery
and remain willing, openminded and teachable
as you begin building a strong, solid foundation
to live your sober life upon for yrs to come.

I can relate. I threw five years of sobriety away once too. Not this time, God willing. Welcome back.

Welcome back Buster

Posting here regularly should get you sober but maybe its worth thinking about exploring other things as well this time, to help defeat that 'surely I'd be ok to have a couple of drinks now' thing...?
