Book Thread- what are you reading?
It's been TOO long since we've had a book thread.
Personally, I bounce around between recovery-related reading & lighter fiction.
So what's on your bookshelf? What are you listening to an audio CD?

I just finished "Love Warrior" by Glennon Doyle Melton - fantastic, uplifting book about her life (recovering addict/recovering eating disorders) and recovery.
The Alchemist - Paulo Coelho - recommended to me multiple times very recently so I knew it was "time" for this one.
Are You There God, It's Me Margaret - Judy Blume....yes, that old book from adolescence..... I picked it up for DD & couldn't resist.

Currently reading Oathbringer, the third and newest installment in Brandon Sanderson's Stormlight series. But this is a hardcover, 1243-page opus that weighs more than me so I am also reading the much more portable Lovecraft Country, by Matt Ruff for my commute.
totally addicted to audiobooks. i mostly reserve listening time for my commute......which on a really good day is about an hour......on every other day of the year much longer. like yesterday when the box truck ended up dangling over the edge of the viaduct.....i even left work EARLY and this is what i get??
i tend to go for fiction, mystery, psychological thrillers, books that have a listening time of at least 10 hours, so i get my credit's worth!
listened to a really creepy good story a few books back - the main protagonist was a true narcissist.....and the author did an amazing job of being in his head, IMHO......how he could go from thinking his wife was gorgeous and perfect to fat and slovenly in the space of 10 seconds. how nothing was EVER his fault.....his unbreakable belief that he was smarter, better, more deserving, entitled. and how everyone else were just there to be used as needed.
Best Day Ever: A Psychological Thriller by Kaira Rouda.
I did recently listen to Astrophysics for People in a Hurry by Neil deGrasse Tyson. Not that i understood a LOT of it, but it was super fascinating.

I just had a bunch of credits piling up on Amazon Audibles so downloaded the following;
Getting Off ; One woman's journey through sex and porn addiction -Erica Garza (I've dealt with what I might call a less severe sex addiction in the past so interesting to see a memoir out on it. )
Eat Pray Love - Elizbeth Gilbert (saw and loved the film but resonating with me even more now at this point in my life so now I can also listen to it)
The Betrayal Bond: Breaking Free of Exploitive Relationships (bc well, duh)
I have a long drive tonight to visit my parents so look forward to listening

Pleasure - Kim Harrison's Hollows series. They're easy and very entertaining reads with witches, vampires, demons, elves, and werewolves set in modern Cincinnati.
Empowement/Recovery - Woman On Fire by Amy Jo Goddard. It's a sexual empowerment book that, while I've only started it, seems like it will be very helpful for me.

Haven't yet. I know there are free PDFs floating around, but 1) I suspect it's an attempt to cut into the author's profit and 2) it's been said that hackers are placing malware in the files. Didn't want to take a chance.
Reminds me of the poem Invictus by William Ernest Henley...
Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate,
I am the captain of my soul.
Just finished Doctor Sleep by Stephen King, sequel, done years later, to The Shining.
Very good. Lots of AA in this one. King struggled with alcohol and cocaine at one time.
I have been binging on novels by Joshilyn Jackson, a southern writer whose novels are often about past wrongs and redemption, and quite funny.
I’m also finishing up the King trilogy that began with Mr. Mercedes, went on to Finders Keepers, and now End of Watch.
These are really unKing like, more crime stories than supernatural.
