Putting out the recycling bin...
and hearing it clink and rattle as I wheel it down the driveway early in the morning so that the neighbours have less chance of hearing it and knowing its mine. Cringe inducing stuff.
Here's to next fortnights bin being free of empty beer bottles and instead being full of recycling I've purged from my long neglected home.

My recycling service only came once every two weeks.
There were times when the whole bin was literally filled with empty fifths of vodka.
And when I say "there were times," I mean.......every two weeks.
It had a lid though thank goodness.

When you live on an acred lot with many outbuildings...
It's a never ending treasure hunt. Especially when it's a favourite stopping place for all the other alcoholics and you're not the only alcoholic residing there.
But, cleaning out the empties for good once and for all feels good don't it?

I "graduated" to box wine (although I still got bottles too on payday, etc). But even box wine didn't solve my recycling-bin-shame! I'd fill the bin with boxes, even when they were broken down!
Hi I am new to this forum and one day in. I love how even in my dark despair with the four horsemen chasing after me, I can look at your posts and replies and smile. Thank you. Today I am grateful for finding this site.
I used to collect my bottles in garbage bags and drive them to various recycle bins in parks around my neighborhood in the middle of the night. I had so many bottles, they wouldn't fit in the recycle bin at home (also being used by my 4 other housemates).
I have learned many things in my years here on SR but one them that borders on genius is putting your bottles in the neighbor's recycling bin.
Oh how sick and twisted was my drinking life

I've done every one of the things people mention above.
I put out my recycling last night and as it happened it had quite a lot of glass in it - jars, soy sauce bottles and things. It made a big glassy clinking sound and I wanted to announce to all the supposed listeners that it wasn't what they thought!
At least, I'm not worried about my neighbours seeing my recycling efforts. I've always shared a bin

In Vermont, we had deposits on our bottles and cans, and the redemption center was right down the street and attached to the liquor store. I had a bin for empties on the front porch where I could jist open the kitchen window and drop my empties out the window. I would usually fill two bind in two weeks and take them to the redemption center before I left for work in the early afternoon. Sadly, the bins didn't stay empty. Usually there would be two or three cans in the freshly emptied bins before I left for work. Then I started taking empty vodka bottles to work to throw in the recycling there. Uggh. I like having my recycling bin filled with junk mail and produce cartons now.

I used to take a lot of it to the recycling center myself. That way the neighbors didn't see. And the chair of my department, who lives up the street, didn't see. And the guys who pick up recycling as well--and they all wear orange jumpsuits because they're in jail.
Yeah, I was concerned about what the convicts would think of my drinking!
So glad that's over with.
