Anxiety attack
I've been having an extreme anxiety attack for the last 15 minutes. It doesn't really bother me, all I think is that I'm going to die.
And I can't feel my tongue.
Anxiety attacks I can handle. But at day 49, can this still be recovery-related? Or is it just one of those things that happen?

Im sorry! I hate anxiety attacks. Havent had one in a while but they always seem to creep up after a bout of stress. Not sure if its recovery related as I am only on day 3 but I am happy to hear you are riding it out. Not much more you can do. It will pass. Hugs to you

Thanks. It's still amplifying. Could barely stand up.
I have been diagnosed with several things, including this. And vasovagal syncope in response to stressful emotions. Which this certainly is. Which means I might pass out.
It's not new in itself. I've had this for ages, even before I started drinking. I thought it was gone though. So I was wondering if this could be a response to not drinking or just the regular symptoms I sometimes have.
No need to be alarmed though. I've spent many hours with doctors about this problem. And I know what it is and what to do. I just thought I was over it.

Mike, I'm sorry you're going through this. I had anxiety attacks long before I began drinking and I still have them now. They worsened considerably while I was drinking, and now, they are generally manageable, but no fun at all. I hope you feel better.

You have no idea how much training I've had in breathing techniques when I was following a 7 month CBT therapy.
And in the end, the thing that works for me is the Wim Hof Method. Go figure.
Thanks though. It reminded to start his techniques again.

Ok, D122y.s world here.....
As long as the dr. Checked you out clean you are going to be alright.
I have anxiety too......but now clean for nearly 11 months.....I see it has been w me forever.
It goes way back etc...blah...blah...
Listening to from Panic to Power, over and over, and now I have a plan of attack for this situation.
After 49 days and a dr. Check out you can be assured...it is all in your head.
Nervousness and excitement have the same physical traits etc etc.
Clean brain problems. It gets better sir.

I've had vasovagal syncope events a few times. That feeling of shutting down, with the blood pressure and heart rate dropping to near zero, is scary stuff. It really feels like you're dying.
One trick I learned is that during the syncope event, assuming you haven't completely passed out, alternately clench and unclench the muscles of your arms and legs. This drives blood through the circulatory system and into the brain, relieving the shutting-down feeling a bit until the event passes.

I feel a lot better. Whenever something is going on, I go to my doctor. And when I started to have this problem, I did. It is harmless but the passing out is inconvenient. Still harmless though. And I can feel it coming so I can lie down.
I even had a realization and a personal breakthrough because of it. I realized that most of my fears are unnecessary. I already knew that, but this time I had the experience of my fears leaving me. And there are only a few left.
I can't be afraid right now. Which is new to me. I would always experience some fear or anxiety, but now... nothing. Just feeling normal.
Cool.

Glad you got through that Mike and were able to reach out here...anxiety sucks and panic attacks REALLY suck and many people simply do not understand and tend just label others as just being neurotic and/or drama queens. My eyes were opened about the issue of panic attacks when one of my best friends who is very intelligent and for the most part emotionally stable confided to me that she would get these panic attacks. I mean, this gal has really got her stuff together!
