Very New to this
Hey there,
I am very new to recovery and am looking for every possible way to gain support and moe information.
I attended my first AA meeting on Saturday after having a very bad run in with alcohol friday evening. When I drink, I am drinking to black out and escape the pains in my life.
I am exhausted with this behaviour and have realized that it is continuing to get worse and I need to stop it now before it gets any worse.
I look forward to connecting with others who are or have gone through the same thing.

Welcome to SR mary. Attending the AA meeting over the weekend sounds like a great idea, hope you can continue. SR is also a fantastic place to find support no matter what recovery plan/method you follow. Most of us drank to "escape" something...but it ended up being a prison rather than an escape. Hope we can help you find your way back.
I drank for the same reason, Mary. I needed to escape from my life (or so I thought) and things became unmanageable. Believe that you can do this and that things will improve as you recover.
One day at a time Mary , You may think drinking helps with the pain in your life , but in the end it only makes it worse .
Once you get alcohol out of your life , you have a clearer mind to fix what's and or work on what's wrong Read all you can hear and keep posting . Lots of helpful people .

Welcome, Mary.
I found that numbing myself with alcohol didn't solve one problem - it just created a whole bunch of new ones.
Stick around, there's plenty to read. If you get a little anxiety, come here and post. We've all been there.

welcome!!
congratulations on taking the steps to get to AA and introduce yourself here.
Pat yourself on the back, those are big, difficult, important steps. You're already well down the path toward freeing yourself from the painful cycle of alcohol's grip.
Having been right where you are - and now free and happy and fulfilled and deepening my life every day - I can tell you that brighter days are much closer than you imagine.
Stick around, read up, get yourself a Big Book, read it.... post, listen, try what you've heard works...... you can do it!

Welcome to SR, mary2788. I highly suggest joining and actively participating in the Class of July 2015 thread found on this same forum. It's a great way to learn from and help others who are also in early recovery. Wishing you the best today!

Welcome! I'm only six days in, but every time I want to drink (and I drank for the same reasons you said you did) I come here... and read and read. There is no more supportive group of people than the ones I have found here.
Welcome Mary.
Many of us, myself included, will identify with using alchol (or drugs) to try to escape from reality.
Well done for reaching out for support, here and at your meeting.
Casey suggested joining the July class which is marvellous advice, I'd suggest making a daily commitment to your sobriety in the 24 hour recovery connections thread (perhaps someone would be kind enough to post a link? I can't do it from my phone), I post there daily and credit it as one of the main accountability tools in my arsenal.
Keep posting Mary. It's good to have you along.
