Day one
For me, I was extremely grateful an
intervention took place in my life 24yrs
ago, to get me help for my addiction when
I didn't want to, didn't think I needed help
and failed sooooo many time to quit drinking
on my own.
Addiction became so cunning, baffling
and too powerful to stop completely on
my own until I was placed in a good
environment away from alcohol, and
a placed in the hands of those to teach
me about addiction and hand me a program
of recovery as a guideline to incorporate
in my everyday affairs.
Once I was off alcohol for 28 day with
a 6 week aftercare program attached
to keep me engaged and connected
with recovery, it allowed all this helpful
knowledge to sink in and help me take
one day at a time to get healthy.
I realized then that I no longer have to
go thru life and struggles by myself alone
ever again which to me is extremely comforting.
Stay strong and continue to reach out
for help as many of us here in SR pass
on our own ESH - experiences, strengths
and hopes of what life was and is like
before, during and after addiction to
help you and others.

Would you like to share what triggered
you to pick up a drink this last time?
Im not familiar with your story but glad
your still here reaching out for help to
learn how not to drink one day at a time.
Staying in the day helps alleviate the
anxiety of not drinking in the future as
it is not here right now. Making sure that
no alcohol is in reach, in my home, so
while learning to not drink and going
thru early recovery ups and downs
wont trigger me to reach for poison
to make matters worse.

Lunch time, still foggy, bad chest pain from anxiety, still shaky and my stomach is queasy. Feeling so much guilt! May hit a meeting tonight or visit some family. I hate being home alone. Hope I feel a lot better tomorrow. This really sucks, but I got this
Being around folks in recovery never
made me feel guilty or uneasy because
many have done similar if not the same
things I did when I was powerless over
my drinking. Powerless over my addiction.
I always found and still find comfort in
sharing or talking to another person in
recovery more so than friends and family
who either didn't not have an addiction
problem or didn't understand addiction.
Going to a meeting is a good helpful
choice or decision in early recovery
or return back here at night to share
your day or troubles with other folks
who absolutely understand where you
are coming from.
Find support from folks who have learned
themselves how to remain sober each day
for long periods of time. We have all been
there, done that before, during and after
addiction and have lots of experiences,
strengths and hopes to help you along in
ur journey living each day healthier, happier
and honest in all ur affairs.

Good luck, sounds like you know the drill. If it gets out of hand ER please? Otherwise, deep breathes, lots of water and try eat. If you feel the urge - post some. One day at a time.

hi Charlee, I believe in your original post you mentioned to wish you luck. Gosh, if it was just a matter of luck, I'd wish all the luck in the world towards you. But sadly, its not luck, its determination, and that's hard. But I'm sure you can do it. I wish you the very best.
Checking in tonight. Not feeling too bad, still shakey, heart rate a little high, but all in all not horrible. Drank lots of vitamin water, ate some and really tired. I'm home alone but feeling strong, no urge to drink at all Now onto day two tomorrow
Good for you! Glad day one went alright. It's uncomfortable for a few days, which I tried to take as a nice reminder of why I didn't want to drink anymore.
Keep checking in and let us know how it's going... There's some really good threads in the Newcomer's Daily section too that I find helpful
