Still drinking after all the evidence

Hello,

I have been hesitant about joining a forum like this, even though it has been throbbing in my mind alongside with the hangovers. I guess what my hello means is that I might be looking for another person of my ilk - a person whose work is mostly done with his or her brain. There is a longer story in it for people who would take the time to read/listen.

From what I've read so far, this is a really supporting community and I wish to contribute in the future.

When the field of work is of any importance, I'm in law. So maybe someone who has been through that hell and survived, can start me on my road to recovery as well. Everyone else is obviously welcome to please share their thoughts and feelings, I just know from the manner of my person, that I will most connect with a fellow lawyer or law-student.

Thank you for having me, I wish you all the best

I cannot send PM-s until 5 posts. And I don't wish to produce these artificially without need - if someone would contact me personally, I would be very grateful And once again, thank you for such a great welcome.

Welcome kkik!

I was a professional who drank despite all the evidence...I was a nurse and my drinking/drugging eventually cost me my professional license. Sadly, even that wasn't enough to make me quit. I had a lot more to lose and a lot more evidence to test before I finally had had enough. It ultimately came down to me making a choice to quit. All the medical knowledge in the world hadn't been able to keep me sober.

You'll find a lot of support here from people from all walks of life.

I'm really glad you're here!

Hi kkik

the forums here are very safe and anonymous. I really think you'll get more out of posting here and getting a variety of responses from a multitude of people, than you would PMing one on one?

Thanks you Salgal and least, if I could talk to experienced people like yourself, maybe the OP was unnecessary?

The diversity of thought, perspective, experience, and background is one of the key benefits of the group. I'm confident you'll get a lot out of it.

Welcome. I'm not a lawyer, but I have three in my family . There are a number of recovering lawyers on this board. I think even non-lawyers may provide some support.

I know there are several lawyers on here, including myself. Feel free to PM me if you want.

But I would encourage you to continue to post at group level. You'll be pleasantly surprised at the experience, strength and hope the people who make up this community can offer you, regardless of profession.

Lots of us professionals have also been "professionals" at drinking.

Truth is.... your work has little to do with it.

Sure, it is an influence.... but don't let yourself believe that for some reason your 'mind work' requires or leads to drinking. It's about you, not your work.

At least, that has been my experience and my observation of others' experiences shared in this vein.

If you'd like to change your life for the better.... you've arrived at a positive place to help with that.

Welcome.
