Gonna be awful... starting day 1

Hi, I have a feeling this day 1, 2 and 3 of quitting drinking is going to be awful. Very shaky already. Kinda scared. I mean I drank morning, noon and night to the tune of about 20-24 beers a day. Never ate. Anyone have any advice on what to do/tips for the first couple days. I figure it probably takes about 3 days to get all the alcohol out of my system. Anxiety is quite high and I made a mess of my life but i'm still alive. Ate a bowl of chicken noodle soup today as my insides feel all messed up.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I am not a doctor and in no way giving medical advice, but it just might be a wise idea to check in with yours. Withdrawal from alcohol can be dangerous.

Rest, hydration, sticking close to the forums are all good as is meetings. Welcome !

Mbrett - good to have you here with us. I felt so much better when I found SR and could talk to people who understood. I was drinking the same amounts as you - even more. After a few days of misery, everything began to ease up. You never have to feel this awful again.

Hi mbrett! At the height of my drinking, I was like you....morning, noon and night and chugging over a case of beer a day. My withdrawal was pretty bad, and if I'd known it could kill you, I'd have seen a doctor back then. I suggest that you check in with a health professional! I didn't eat during my heavy drinking years either, and that was an adjustment to my body as well. Good on you for quitting and getting your health and life back! It is well worth it.
It will take more than 3 days for the alcohol to get out of your system, but the worst of my physical withdrawal symptoms lasted a week or two. Your mileage may vary.

If you're going to do this alone, pre-dial 911 and have the phone ready to call. I almost had to call.

20 months ago, I was ready to chuck it all. Fat, broke, drunk.... it gets better if you work it. The first few days were full of anxiety. I was lucky and did not have a lot of physical symptoms even though I could down about as much vodka as you could beer.

SR has been my life line, there is a chat room and online discussion meetings on Tues and Fri evenings.

As Trachemys said, if you can't get thru it alone... call for medical help.

You can stay on here until you need to sleep. The management knows how to get local authorities to do welfare checks. And will do them.

Wow that's pretty nice of the management team. I do not feel terrible right now. Just a little scared if you know what I mean.
