Week 1 Down and Feeling the "Glow"

Well, as the title suggests, I have made it 1 week sober. As the initial withdrawals faded, I felt that familiar "glow" that comes (to me) with early sobriety. It is as if the dark clouds are lifting and I feel that I get to look forward to life again, rather than not care if I live or die. Something about this time feels different for me - more committed than ever before, have a solid plan in place, am at a time in life where sobriety is more "feasible," etc. I'm ready to be one of the successful veterans here - my time to beat this has finally come. Thanks for all of the continued support!

That glow might be your dopamine response system working overtime making up for the lack of alcohol. Some say us alcoholics have hyper sensitive brain based dopamine response systems that are particularly stimulated by alcohol. We get super sensations of euphoria that normies don't get from alcohol. That feeling makes us not want to stop once we get going. Be careful, the brain may shut it off at any minute and you can crash and feel horrible. We are after all a mass of chemicals and spirit.

Great job on one week! It's so refreshing to begin a less "cloudy" outlook on life. I have faith in you!
