Blurred Vision and DT's

Hi everyone. I started to quit drinking last week (Thursday, Feb 6, 2014.) Instantly, I had a great deal of sweating from my entire body. It is embarrassing to talk to people while beads of sweat pour down my face.

I am also experiencing blurred vision. I decided to give my body a little bit of alcohol and the sweating stopped by the blurred vision continues. Furthermore, I close my eyes and see all sorts of 'visions'.

It is difficult to sleep and I'm trying my best to ween myself off but the tremors are getting worse. Does anyone have any suggestions/remedies?

Thanks so much! I am determined to beat this!

I think seeing a Dr is best, Gabriel.
None of us are doctors.

Have you stopped or are you weening off?

Hi there Dee74,

I am weening myself off. I have figured out that the Ernest and Galio wine is the culprit. It's not hard spirits nor is it beer or Mad Dog. Once that wine gets in my system, things seem to calm down. What I am afraid of is the feeling that I am about to black out. Has anyone felt this before?

Yeah. For me that was really high blood pressure.
I really recommend you see a Dr., Gabriel.

It's much better, and much safer, than do it yourself tapering.

I have had the visions, sweats, shakes, awake dreams, etc - but even the couple times I tried to wean myself off instead of going cold turkey, I never felt like I was going to black out by having one drink. That doesn't sound right to me.

I have had that blackout feeling and nausea feeling. The doctor said it was to do with the high potassium levels in my blood from the alcohol...not good, how about booking in a trip to the Drs.today.

I agree with the others: see a doctor to be safe.

My last withdrawal, my blood pressure shot way up (it's normally low-normal) and I got blurred vision, almost like there was a fog, and felt like I was going to pass out, and a couple of times had flashes of lights/spots. High bp and other withdrawal effects can be pretty serious. Definitely check in with your doctor or Emerg. Good luck and hang in there.

If I were you...I'd go to the E.R. Sounds like you are going through some pretty severe withdrawals. I had all those symptoms AND seizures. Be safe....go to the hospital.

I've only been hungover, never any withdrawals, but I sure don't want to find out, that sounds horrible.

And please don't let shame or embarrassment keep you from the ER. They will help you. You DONT have to go through this. These symptoms more than often keep us drinking just to ward them off. All we are really doing is putting withdrawals off for the time being. And they just get worse. Hope you get through this....best wishes..

One time I was hungover going to the ER but my BP was close to normal so they didnt do anything, just stuck me in a waiting room for 5 hours until the doctor saw me and told me not to drink so much next time.

I agree with everyone ... Doctor is the way to go.

I self detoxed and made it but I took a gamble. I would never do that again. It was unwise and not safe. God willing I will never find myself in that place again, but if I do the doctor is my first stop.

Be safe. Consult a medical professional. Oh, and my eyes were a mess for a while too.

I want to say a big thank you for all of the messages you have posted. I went to the doctor and my blood pressure was off the charts. Not only that, but my thiamin levels were way down as well as B12 levels. I have been given a dosage of librium to help me get over the heavy feelings of anxiety.

I have to admit that this has been the worse detox I have ever had from alcohol. How embarrassing to try to write something at the bank and my hands are shaking violently. The visions have calmed down a bit but my doctor said that I could have had a seizure. I explained how the joints in my feet were even locking up and he was happy that I had come in.

So, thank you everyone for your support. This has to be it because the next time, I feel that I may just slip away and I have realized my own self-worth.

Best wishes to you all!

I did experience 'tracers' once (random light flashes, both open and closed eye). Had it all at one time or another. From seizures to a pulse rate that would kill the average person. Hallucinated music once, that was scary.

Glad to hear you went to a doctor. Librium is a big help to get past the first few days. Be well.

That is awesome, Gabriel. That is how I feel for myself too - that a "next time" could truly be deadly .. and I (we!) have so much to live for. Please keep posting on your progress!!
