I want to drink
I hear ya! I run done the list of the privileges of staying sober when that happens - well, first I sit down and don't move until it passes, however long that takes. Pop a candy in my mouth as well. The privileges of sobriety - like my health, my wife, my life, my liberty, my kids, being able to drive, money in the bank --- I've been drunk and I've been sober. Sober is better.
What are your privileges of sobriety?
What are your privileges of sobriety?
Hey less, can you pin point something or is this simply a free floating urge? I know you want to drink i whole heatedly get that. But if your honest with you.... You can't drink. Does it sux... Yup. Are you going to get through this.... Yup would you be glad you gave in in the morning.... NOPE.
Even if playing it forward doesn't work, let's try something different. How about you write an apology letter to your self, for what your about to do and why. It just might enlighten you.
I really hope you get through this because you know you can!

You're here and you're posting, you CAN do this lessgravity!
We are here for you. It's tough when you play that tape and it still doesn't help. It will pass though and right now you're doing the best thing that you can to combat.

I I was you and acted on this urge it will play out like this, go to bed sometime around 2 to 3 am. Usually after making some comments on the internet either on facebook or a forum but not remembering tomorrow what I said. Possibly making some phone calls to people not remembering what I said or why I called. Anxiety, headache and upset stomach until mid afternoon tomorrow. Angry wife and back at day one with shame and anxiety. No, I'll just pass. Do this exercise and put in your scenario. Usually helps for me. Your mileage may wary.

Try writing out a benefit cost analysis of drinking versus not drinking. Why did you want to quit? What is good about sobriety? The visual impact of that list can sometimes be as powerful as the content.
Also, you can read on the Friends and Family of Alcoholics thread to remind yourself of the havoc and pain we can inflict on the lives of others. I sometimes feel it is very good to get this perspective on my drinking and its costs.

Something I read in Allen Carr helped me.
Think about why you want to drink - what is it you want to fix, or change, or transcend?
Once you identify that you can work on other healthier ways to a solution

All you have to do is simplify.
You must get through this day, and this day only.
Realize this, and you will find strength.
Above all, remember to follow your own advice- The obstacle is the path.
I have wanted to both of the past two days..days 5 & 6 for me. But I made it through by staying in here and does it ever feel great. Just think of how proud u will make yourself for not succumbing to the urge. Hang in there...today is almost done!!
Thank you all so so much.
Got through it. Sat with it, b*tched about it, surfed the urge and then 9:15pm comes and everything about me is so content, calm and happy with being sober instead of drunk.
Thank you all so much, as usual.
Dee, I'm going to reread Carr again this weekend, haven't since this round of sobriety.
Another battle waged and thanks to SR and the tools I have gotten from here, another battle won.
Stay strong everyone and thank you thank you again.

Good for you for riding it out. When I want to drink I try to think to myself, "how will I feel tomorrow? What good can (or ever has) come from my drinking?" If I think it through I realize that even though it's what I want right now to kill the pain, boredom, etc.....it does not work for me in the long run.
My favorite part about not drinking? No hangover, guilt, or self-hatred.
You did it! Glad you're feeling better. Every small triumph makes you feel stronger. It does get easier with time.
