I must not give in, I must not give in ...!
Sitting in a hotel room in an African capital and have TERRIBLE cravings ...am on day 12 now . When on earth are they going to stop ??. It is 6pm, I have finished work, tomorrow is a public holiday... the bar looks sooo tempting and I have already spotted a lovely bottle of chilled Muscadet .. but I MUST not give in ..'Play to the end of the tape' as i have been told so often here on SR . It won't be one glass, it'll be 10 ...so I need to distract myself. I think I'll go swimming . Hopefully a bit of exercise will make the craving disappear...
Please send me positive vibes ..I need to live up to my name 'I can do this'! :-)

Im on day 4 and SO want to make it! Please go for that swim and maybe get something delicious to eat. Fight it! Please come back and tell us how you're doing. It's always so inspirational when others share on here. Stay strong!

Of course! That is what this place is for. You are doing very well. I love apple juice. I tend to pour some in my glass of water for the "juicy water" effect. What movie are you watching?

That is awesome !!!! I'm glad you made it through that aweful craving!! It's also an inspiration for me !!! Today is my first day and I'm into my bewitching hour. I'm dieing to walk in the kitchen, pour myself a glass of wine, and begin my art project.

Sending you lots of positive vibes - you can really do this.
It's just cravings, it's your thoughts, let them go.
Exercising is a great thing - work yourself out and boost natural endorphines.
Best wishes to you. Keep posting. Stay strong.

Alternative activities were a great way for me to get through the initial cravings. I made a list of things I could do instead of drinking and when my mind focused on alcohol I would take out the list and do one. In addition to taking my mind off of booze, it had the added benefit of making me very productive.
Good job so far! Keep it up!
Cravings were the first few months for me...they did stop tho
I think being alone in a strange place on day 12 is a pretty rough scenario to be in, so maybe cut yourself some slack, icandothis.
Its the response to the craving that counts and your response is great
this technique helped me:
http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...e-surfing.html
along with playing the tape through, reaching out for help, remembering those 4 main trigger points HALT...(hungry angry lonely tired)
and remembering never ever to drink....
my Dad saying for the day is: it's pollution, not a solution
keep going
